Instructor on the stepping machine video session: “check in on your heart rate. Is it over 100? 120? That’s good. We want that heart pumping” My heart rate:
I don't know what the hell the Instagram algorithm thinks I'm into, but if I do want somewhere to sell my .. *checks notes* .... Chinese Art I will be sure to make ... *checks notes* Sotheby's my first port of call.
Can someone commision me to write something on why 'Common People' both is and isn't a song about class war, and why that's something you'll instinctively understand if you were raised in the UK but isn't so obvious if you weren't? I'll do it for cheap. I'm very good.
Apparently Common People is going big with Americans because MCR have covered it but they’re missing the context of it being about class and are posting on TikTok like it’s relatable just about being some sort of alternative outsider and I guess that’s what we deserve culturally
I KNEW IT. They have shaved 10g off Snickers in the UK. They were 50g, now they’re 40g. Some stores still have the biggers ones and I bought one for comparison. Same price, obviously. We have lost 20% of Snickers.
Cardiff! Excited to be doing this home town run out of my comedy lecture on the history and cultural significance of pettiness - complete with charts. Joined by @20thcenturymarc.marcburrows.co.uk sharing his 10 best songs of all time & the life he lived around them. Next Thursday! Porters!
I see Wes Streeting has realised he can't beat Burnham so will toady along behind him until he can stab him in the back. Snivelling, weasley little shit that he is.
Brian Molko has taken a swing at reworking one of the core albums of my teenage angst. I wrote this for @super-deluxe.bsky.social on why it meant so much to begin with, and why it didn't really need the retooling: superdeluxeedition.com/reviews/revi...
Hot take. ‘Fade Into You’ by Mazzy Star is a gorgeous song but it’s also just ‘Knocking On Heaven’s Door’ done as dream pop.
The Elvis 68 Comeback Special is on BBC4 and my god, it is SO. FUCKING. GOOD. My god, no-one has been this charismatic ever again.
You know when you hear a song in a cafe and have a little moment where you think "Do you know what? That is actually a really, really perfect song isn't it?" I've just had that with 'Otherside' by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and I don't know who I am anymore.
Let's all raise a cup of Gold Blend. #GNUAnthonyHead
The guy who wrote this Times article is an AI shill for a living, so I suppose I should expect it, but you’d hope THE ACTUAL TIMES would be a bit tighter on polishing the obvious ChatGPT tells out of the slop he handed in.
Have a Sunday morning deep-dive into one of the great alt-rock debuts, wot I wrote for @super-deluxe.bsky.social superdeluxeedition.com/reviews/smas...
The Hacks finale! It’s been a pretty upbeat season, it’s not going to be *that* emotio… oh.
What went wrong with Good Omens 3? I did a deepdive on the background for @heyuguys.bsky.social www.heyuguys.com/why-good-ome...
Why Good Omens 3 has a Terry Pratchett problem - spoiler review - HeyUGuys
There was supposed to be a lot of the late Terry Pratchett in Good Omens 3, the finale to Amazon’s successful apocalyptic series based on the 1990 novel Pratchett co-authored with Neil Gaiman. There’s...

The absence of "Story by Terry Pratchett and..." in the Good Omens 3 credits is very interesting, isn't it? His only mention is for the novel. People go to war over TV credits. If someone's not listed it's a choice.
Then earlier that same day Get Your Geek On - mixed bill nerdy comedy with some of my absolute favourite (and nerdiest) acts …this week featuring @soozuk.bsky.social @20thcenturymarc.marcburrows.co.uk @garethgwynn.bsky.social Sunday 10th May 1:30pm The Walrus Pay-what-you-want Come have fun!
Saw the Reading line up and genuinely thought, just for a minute, that it said “Chas N Dave”. Which would be extraordinary for several reasons.
I think i’ve found the internet’s most insane take.

Culture writers looking to write their first book! My publishers Pen & Sword/White Owl are looking for pitches for music biographies, album by album guides to iconic artists and iconic movies/TV. All above board with a real advance and they take chances on new writers which, believe me, is rare.
I saw the Michael Jackson movie because I wanted to have an actual informed opinion about it. It's awful. Whatever you think about Michael Jackson, he deserves better than this. Because whatever else he was, he was a human being, a complicated man with three dimensions. Everybody is.
We are, I swear, a maximum of two years away from that Kool-Aid film from The Studio.
The trailer for the upcoming movie about the life of Milton Hershey has dropped.

I’m always surprised that Clash of the Titans was made in 1981. The same year as Raiders of the Lost Ark, four years after Star Wars. It feels like it was made in 1958!
I've said this before and I'll keep banging this drum ... charging a touring performer 20% commission on their merch sales when they man the stall themselves with their own card machine is morally indefensible. Plenty of venues don't do this. It's not industry standard. It's grasping and greedy.
Okay, first sketch and opening monologue banging. I’m all in. #SNLUK
