2220 Arts + Archives

@2220arts.bsky.social

Interdisciplinary, volunteer-run cultural center in LA hosting film, music, literature, performance. A community living room for autodidacts, explorers and ordinary intellectuals championing art, experiment and imagination.

It's a deep week of record releases (Annabelle Freedman, Serpentine Transmission), adventurous guitar (Rafiq Bhatia, Shane Parish), questing cinema (Akinola Davies Jr, Barbara T Smith) and radical movement art from an all femme ensemble. Brimming, unspooling, odyssey + catharsis. This week at 2220.

Two deep archival digs into 16mm prints with Lightstruck and Filmforum this week, two immersive ambient + multimedia showcases in the theater, and some summery folk balladry in the bar to open the month. Welcome to June at 2220.

This week at 2220. Four programs of dynamic collective improvisation – duos, trios and large ensembles – plus two film features from near and far – last year's Golden Leopard winner from Sho Miyake, and Harry Smith's underseen epic Mahagonny.

This week at 2220, we start off w/ two events marrying sound art & movement to bewildering effect. Meanwhile, two of our film series take us abroad to Lebanon and the Mongolian Taiga (the latter for 10 hours!), and we welcome full houses for Discovery Zone and legend Joan La Barbara on the weekend.
