The reluctance of young people to have children reflects the unfair distribution of social resources. Excessive income disparity makes it difficult to even guarantee a basic standard of living, let alone raise the next generation.

The reason people aren't having kids is simple: income inequality has become so extreme that Americans can barely afford housing and food, let alone raise kids.

A deeper problem is that Americans no longer trust existing institutions to fairly balance freedom and security. This is why every gun debate devolves into a culture war.
