One day the Leeds > Bristol train will arrive in Derby in time to meet the Crewe train but until that time arrives tonight's missed connection pub of choice is The Alexandra. No missing the departure times here! Two by Two Citra, Simcoe, Ekuanot beer of choice
Enough time for The Golden Slipper, Goodramgate, York before the train. After much reflection I opted for a Timothy Taylor's Blonde (N.B. they normally have a wider range of breweries, the TT takeover was for Yorkshire Day)
The Goodmanham Arms nr Market Weighton, East Yorks. Superb! Thank you to Hull CAMRA members that recommended I visit. What ambiance. Hambleton Brewery Stallion on the bar. A quality traditional bitter. They also had Bass which was in great condition (X46 bus Hull > York + 1 mile walk)
Stop 8 on The Scarborough > Hull return coastal rail journey & the final pub of the day 'Nellies' (The White Horse Inn) for Samuel Smiths Bitter . Minutes from historic Beverley's North Bar (capital of the East Riding). Superb ambiance.
Stop 7 on the Scarborough > Hull Coastal journey. Chequers micro pub, Beverley for a North Riding US IPA. 5 years since my last visit. It looks like someone's opened a pub in half a bungalow but it's excellent, v friendly and beer quality is absolutely top notch
Stop 6 on the Scarborough > Hull coastal journey. Half a Great Newsome Sleck Dust at The Dog & Duck Coaching Inn. Somewhat nondescript exterior belies the welcoming staff
Stop 5 on The Scarborough > Hull coastal rail journey. 3 B's micro pub, Bridlington (recently relocated). Trig Brewery (nr York) Nelson Sauvin Benchmark available and an obvious choice. The station has an informative display on the rediscovery of the N E Railway tiled map
Stop 4 on the Scarborough > Hull return coastal rail journey. Cobblers Arms micro, Filey. The barman recommended Three Brothers Brewery (Stockton on Tees) Cloudy Judgement which was excellent.
Stop 3 Scarborough. The Stumble Inn. V convenient for the rail station before the train to Filey. V friendly welcome. Three Brothers Trad Bitter otb, nicely hopped. A favourite brewery
Stop 2 Scarborough. Scholars Bar. I nearly walked past, quite an austere exterior but I've lots of time before the train. Walking through Guiseley AFC former players tunnel there's a quality selection of cask beers. I love Hambleton beers but rarely see them so opted for the porter. Deservedly busy
A trip out to Scarborough starting at the North Riding Brew Pub. The US IPA (Amarillo / Columbus) is absolutely superb, amongst the best cask I've had. Not the fastest rail journey from Hull considering the distance but worth it
Stop 8 on beers from the wood Hull walkabout. W M Hawkes for Harrogate Brewing Nidd Mild. Not often I have a mild but this was good and the prints of old Hull add real ambiance to the pub
Stop 7 on beers from the wood Hull walkabout. Half Moon Old Forge Bitter at Scale & Feather Bar. Quite subtle woody notes but an excellent classic bitter.
Stop 6 on the beers frm the wood Hull walkabout: Nolans. Can't fault the Brew York Whippet Fuel Pale. They also have Bass with TWO pump clips on display! The newer (premium) one & traditional one. Talk about ostentatious. I thought Yorkshire folk liked to hide their light under a bushel. Show offs!😉
Stop 5 on the beers from the wood Hull walkabout: Half Moon Odin's Judgement Old Ale at The Newland Tap. The wood really enhances it. Rich, full bodied & doesn't drink at 5.8%. Lovely, friendly ambiance. The furthest out of the venues but an easy bus journey back into town
A little detour off the beers from the wood Hull walkabout to visit Atom Bar (minutes from Pave) for Atom Peach & Apricot Sour which is very refreshing in the warmer weather, especially after the walk out from Hull town centre
Stop 4 on the beers from the wood Hull walkabout. Pave bar. Industrial style & a contrast to previous venues. A tribute to organiser Marcus's (York Soc Preservation of Beers frm the Wood) skills that he's able to engage an eclectic range of bars / pubs. North Riding Jamaican Rum Stout excellent
Stop 3 on the beers from the wood Hull walkabout. Wilde Child Brownie Hunter chocolate fudge stout at The Spring Bank Tavern. Not a beer I'd ordinarily go for but suits the wood well.
Stop 2 on the beers from the wood Hul walkabout. The New Clarence Community Pub. 'Half' a 'Half' Moon Nectaron. Nice map of old KYngston upon Hvll on the wall
First stop on The beers from the wood Hull walkabout. Wishbone Brewery (Keighley) Tiller Pin at The Hop & Vine. V refreshing and the wood is subtle giving a little extra depth and not overdone

A visit to the architecturally stunning White Hart, Hull before The Yorkshire Day beers from the wood event. Burmantofts tiled bar with cabinets. Half a Spur Bitter from Trig, nr Poppleton, York. Excellent!

Despite mandatory East Leeds signal failure & a complementary diversionary tour of Castleford got to Hull in time for a pint of Wensleydale Pale in the v friendly Hop & Vine. Decorative hops are freshly hung every September. The carving is classic Hull buildings in relief. Superb ambiance.
'Templar Time' to enjoy a Kirkstall Three Swords before the train to Hull for tomorrow's Beers from the Wood event👇. I quite fancy another pint but the train is showing on time (I'm sure that won't be the case when I get to Leeds City Station.....)

One of these days the Crewe > Derby train will arrive on time & not to watch the departing tail lights of the hourly Leeds train. Until then it'll be a visit to The superb Smithfield adjacent to The River Derwent, where the Bass is excellent (& there's a lot of flood defence work in evidence)
A trip out to The superb Blue Mugge in beautiful Leek (nr Buxton, The Potteries & Macclesfied). The pub is celebrating 50yrs under the same family ownership. Bass excellent as ever + Salopian Runaway Summer Pale to follow. An authentic, community backstreet pub unchanged by time
Long enough since I last rode Pott Shrigley Brickworks (nr Macclesfield) to forget how bad it is. Down more fun than up. A lovely stop off at superb Cotton Tree, Bollington on the way back. Landlady spotted I was a cyclist & asked for my bottles to put ice & water in. Great views today

Excellent afternoon in York, slightly comprised by a moment of reflection walking past yet another closed pub (obviously due to its unviable location) with a touching, heartfelt, typically Yorkshire tribute that the great man would have appreciated smeared into the dirty window 'he has gone....'
The Golden Slipper, Goodramgate, York justifiably busy. Friendly welcome from the landlord. Daleside Bitter really suits the wood which gives it depth. Acorn Old Moor Porter excellent as always
This kirkstall Virtuous LA at The historic multi roomed Swan Inn York isn't bad at all. The Swan / Slip beer festival is scheduled in for 28-30th August Bank Holiday
