Talking to a friend today about people mistaken social media for activism & they pointed out that you can't "block" fascists in real life. Block as many as you want online, boycott the apps, they still living around us & walking our streets. Worryingly, they are the ones commited to real activism!
The great trick of social media is to convince people if they are opinionated inside an echo chamber they are an activist. But real activism is on the street, where you might be footsteps from people who want you dead. Real activism makes enemies friends, changes laws, destroys power dynamics etc.

To a whole section of the British media not exclusively on the right repeated sexism, racism, Islamophobia, homophobia & contempt for poor people are all fine. The reasoning: 'he is a nice guy'; 'he had me on his show' & did bigotry with a smile.
Act being the key word. Social media is a way to share opinions but it's not activism.

I disagree. Le Pen hasn’t instigated a coup d’état. Meloni does not have track record of openly racist remarks. And Orbán accepted his electoral defeat. Not to say that Europeans would no longer vote for these leaders if they did, but we simply don’t know yet. Trump is much more extremist!

He is part of the broad wave of far right parties/politicians since 2008 across rich democracies. Our institutions just suck more. Now it's been handed over to private creditors to burn in a furnace. Then they just laugh at you: at all the taxes you've ever paid or will ever pay. True story. (2/2)
The far-right reactions are not the real problem. They do what they believe in. The big problem is the similar reactions from liberal democratic parties from left to right. And thát, more than anything, is the problem of the 21st century!

Far-right reactions is yet more proof there’s no “moderate” far-right, only different ways far right forces seek to dismantle European integration
My children caught covid at school and as a result nearly lost one of their parents. Other children were not as lucky. Covid was definitely a threat to them.

The Spanish government of Pedro Sanchez is the biggest threat to the European mainstream: a left-wing government that implements left-wing policies that work, including on immigration. They show that “the narrative” is false and humane immigration is possible. This is why they all jump on Cueta.
