It bears mentioning that while lately I’ve been getting on and off at Venice in my nocturnal travels, I’ve been dreaming about riding this same train for 40 years. The stops change, the other passengers change, but the train (and its one staff member) is always the same.

I have this recurring dream that I’m either boarding or getting off a train at Santa Lucia station in Venice. It’s one of those multisensory technicolour dreams in which all the colours are ultra-crisp, and I can smell the water of the canal.

I’m working with some Francophones from Montréal, and it’s a reminder about differences in how we perceive English versus French as second-language speakers. (This is a nice way of saying that I’m being teased about my Anglo accent.)

I had a dream last night that Parker was wearing a little bandana and was driving us in a truck on a road trip. He still can’t drive, but I made the bandana happen.

A young man on his phone nearly ran into me as I was leaving a public washroom today. Me: “Sorry!” Him: “For what?” And that’s how one can easily identify an American in the wild.

Sometimes I make up funny/suggestive names for user personas and stand-in characters in writing projects. Anyway, that’s how “Drake Holeborn” became a little joke at work.

When Einstein said that an object with mass can’t reach or exceed the speed of light, he obviously hadn’t observed how quickly my cat can get to the kitchen when he hears the treat cupboard opening.

My main, mostly useless skill is tie knotting. (When and where I grew up, uniform schools were the standard, and so I’ve been 4-handing and Windsor-knotting since I was 5).

One of my favourite tea shops just started carrying their own line of titanium teaware - from basic infuser cups to a full gongfu set and chawan - and I’m heavily tempted to start being that annoying person who travels with his own tea-making kit.

Having neurospicy texture issues means (amongst other things) cutting up most pitted fruits because THE HORROR of eating around a pit or stone is just too much.
