So many people I encounter, especially in HigherEd, believe the only strategy for this moment is "keep your head down." @debtcollective.bsky.social didn't change priorities in 2024, nor in 2020, nor in 2016. They barreled ahead. There first big win was $800 million. This one is $11 billion.

Congratulations to everyone who worked their asses off for something that any semi-decent and ultimately self-interested government should have done in penance www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/b...

“By embarking on a campaign of censorship, Texas A&M has abdicated its responsibility to support students’ right to learn & faculty’s right to teach. A university that censors Plato & other texts abandons its obligation to truth, free inquiry, & the public trust.” — Todd Wolfson, AAUP president 5

AAUP President Todd Wolfson: An Institution That Censors Plato is Not a Serious Institution of Higher Learning

Censoring Plato is an academic absurdity and a textbook violation of academic freedom. Barring a foundational philosopher who is a cornerstone of Western thought because his work touches on race or ge...

The Labor Department is poised to issue regulations stripping minimum wage and overtime protections for more than one million home care workers, disproportionately immigrant women who provide vital care to seniors and people with disabilities. Care work is real work. Care workers deserve fair pay.

Thank God! Also the fact that not giving the government a list of Jewish people at Penn was something we had to fight for is crazy??? What a world. Huge props to @aaup-penn.bsky.social and the ACLU and associated groups for taking on this fight. www.inquirer.com/education/up...

We (faculty at USC) took on an institutional behemoth with all the money and clout on earth, and we WON. We won our union. We're the biggest private-university faculty union in US history. Trying to make people care about this, challenge level IMPOSSIBLE

On Friday, Local 355-Miami stood in solidarity with thousands of Haitian workers in South Florida with TPS at our action at FLL airport. There is no South FL without Haitian workers! Our union will continue the fight until all workers can live in our full dignity. Sí, se puede! Wi, nou kapab! ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

We stand w/ our colleagues in Texas. Colleges & universities must be protected as places where ideas can be explored freely & evidence can be examined & thoroughly debated openly. Without academic freedom, students are denied the education they deserve, & higher education cannot fulfill its mission.

When faculty are discouraged & prevented from teaching critical topics & perspectives, students are denied the full education they deserve. They lose opportunities to engage w/complex ideas, hear competing viewpoints, & develop the critical thinking skills that higher education is meant to foster. 4

Today, the AAUP & Texas AAUP sued Texas Tech Chancellor Brandon Creighton over directives he gave that mandated the censorship & thought policing of thousands of faculty & students leading to the suppression of academic freedom & the pursuit of knowledge. More Here: www.aaup.org/news/aaup-te... 🧵
