How do we tackle overcrowding in our prisons and what are the costs of early release? They are colossal compared with, and far less effective than, investing in early work with children and youth people to create happier, healthier and more constructive childhoods!
I think when you step back and look at the education discourse on social media, it can look like some educators don't actually like children and young people very much. The constant negativity about CYP isn't a good sign when it's your job to be with them. Yes it can be tricky but it's still a joy.
Maybe it's linked to the 'learning = memory' stuff because that narrative privileges 'getting it into storage' over actually having some fun with learners and relaxing into lessons, not 'delivering' them from a prescripted PPT that you've been told you must use. It can all seem a bit dry and dull. 🤷♀️
When you are doing something fun with your teacher you are learning that learning can be enjoyable. The people who say 'but they'll remember the wrong thing!' about unusual or creative lessons are completely missing the point. 🤷♀️

1/5 I believe strongly in more inclusive mainstream schools. I also think many schools are trying to hold together a SEND system that has been underfunded, over-bureaucratised and inconsistently implemented for years. But there is a risk we cannot ignore. ⬇️
I'm fascinated by how bits of edutwitter are responding to this. If people aren't keen, again *what is the solution* to disaffected learners who come out of school feeling like they've failed? If it's not more vocational pathways, how about making the current offer more relevant and engaging?

Let's hope we will begin to see an education policy which works for children, and for the 21st Century. In The Times today.

Very disappointing from the new Prime Minister, very much sounding like the previous PM. These are among the world’s most vulnerable and desparate people. They need safe routes and humanity from responsible politicians, not grandstanding. This isn’t doing politics differently.
I went to Oxford today and got into conversation with a lovely American while waiting for my friends. He mentioned Trump first - he can’t stand him. We both had a good moan and set the world to rights! I love random encounters.
