I found several letters from Theodor Adorno to Meyer Schapiro while doing research in the latter's archive at Columbia, including several letters concerning efforts to get Walter Benjamin out of Europe.

Would be really cool if the organizations that could call out actual antisemitism centered around the state of Israel - migrants as pawns of an Israeli-led Great Replacement conspiracy - had not burned all their credibility defending Netanyahu and the IDF from highly credible war crimes charges.
A shocking number of people believe, with zero evidence, that Israel is behind Moroccan migrants into Spain, which is just the Great Replacement conspiracy. Meanwhile, US Jewish orgs have declared war on Mamdani for accurately describing Netanyahu as a war criminal. www.haaretz.com/world-news/e...
Saddened to hear of the passing of Laurence Silberstein, emeritus at Lehigh University. No relation (as far as I know) but I greatly benefited from his scholarship on post-Zionism.
I'm actually quite worried about how AIPAC being such a lightening rod will affect American Jews like myself. But my instinctive response is to work for AIPAC's swift defeat and exit from our politics. I will definitely not consent to a being a shield for them. We are not one.
I will be seeing the East German "Flying Dutchman" on August 8 and the Hans-Jürgen Syberberg production of "Parsifal" on August 29 at the Spectacle cinema in Williamsburg—if anyone is interested in joining me.

I didn't know that New York had a de facto uncommitted option by submitting a blank ballot, so I can't ever be accused of supporting uncommitted in the 2020 Democratic primary. I voted for Marianne Williamson.
Looks like Abdul El-Sayed is going to have to try to win Michigan w/out much of the Black vote. They’re the bedrock of the Democratic base in the state. Memories are long & his role in the 2024 “Uncommitted” movement remains a problem for many who believe it helped Trump win the White House.
love watching this guy try to ingratiate himself in polite society again after the all you can eat orbán buffet went belly up. it's like hearing from your facebook uncle after eight years asking to get invited back to thanksgiving again.
Shaul Magid attended the "United Against Hate" rally on the Upper West Side on Sunday. To little surprise—it was obvious from the videos—there was quite a lot of hatred on display at this demonstration. Including hatred directed towards Jews. shaulmagid.substack.com/p/the-hate-a...
Coverage of Laura Loomer in Ukraine is possibly the boldest and most outrageous attempt at mainstream media sanewashing of the entire Trump era.
From a Kyiv bomb shelter, Laura Loomer explains her shift on Russia’s war in Ukraine
A close ally of President Trump, Loomer has reversed her longtime criticism of Ukraine and is urging fellow conservatives to be wary of Moscow’s propaganda, which she blames for duping large swaths of...

"Benjamin would have understood all too well his text’s appropriation as a nationalist trophy. He writes terrifyingly of present victors’ power over the past: 'Even the dead will not be safe from the enemy if he wins.'"

We don't even have to call it psychosis. It's campism. Jake Sullivan is as much a campist as anyone on the IC. Just for a different camp.
"Organizing within an apparatus and in coalition with people who have absolutely psychotic foreign policy views" is an occupational hazard of American politics
“X University broke its past record in harvesting applications from prospective students it had no intention of seriously considering for admission” is now an annual news story. I don’t know who cares to read these besides university PR offices and the worst alumni.
Perhaps Reform rabbis should speak about what's happening in the West Bank tonight instead of stoking "if this were any other minority" ressentiment in response to Zohran Mamdani rightly calling Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal. It is certainly more morally urgent.
I am quoted in Haaretz on the evolution of DSA's position towards Israel/Palestine. www.haaretz.com/us-news/2026...
Likening Netanyahu's situation to that of Alfred Dreyfus is to reverse the order of Marx's famous appendage to Hegel. History repeats itself the first time as farce.
A distant relative of Alfred Dreyfus left this comment on a Facebook post by Rabbi Avi Weiss likening the charges against Netanyahu to the false ones leveled at Dreyfus.

Joel is right. And I'll add: Is it just me or are prominent Reform Jewish leaders completely suicidal when it comes to their movement's future? Like they would rather there be nothing than a movement which might have to tolerate non- and anti-Zionism in its ranks.
It’s embarrassing that the rabbi of Central Synagogue - one of the most prominent Reform rabbis in the US - is portraying Mamdani’s accurate description of Netanyahu as a war criminal as a sign of antisemitism. This is part of why young people take antisemitism less seriously than they should.
She's definitely not running for Senate, which would require her to forfeit her seat in the House because she can't be listed for two different races on the same primary ballot.
tbh it's very obvious AOC is running

It really looks like much of the American Jewish establishment is in the grip of board leaders and donors who want to fight, fight, fight until the political world of their formative years is restored. And so far, no one in staff leadership has the courage to tell them it's over.
On X, my mentions are a complete dumpster fire of people aggressively calling me a kapo. I'm not particularly phased by the name-calling, but it's unnerving to know that so many apparently unstable people know my name and likeness. Yes, yes, why am I still there. I ask myself that all the time.
It’s an effort to fortify the “special relationship” with Israel from democratic accountability. Americans have a right to reassess any alliance with any country through their choices in presidential elections. The sponsors of this amendment want to take that power away from us.
Tomorrow, the House will vote on the NDAA, which includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF. This amendment is an existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy. Every member of Congress must vote NO.
I stand with the mayor I proudly voted for. Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal and he's not welcome in New York.

Unless and until there is a new electoral system, moderates, liberals and democratic socialists in the Democratic Party will have to learn how to get along after primaries. They have no alternatives and each side knows that about the other. There will not be any "purges."
I was waiting for someone to make this totally ignorant comparison of DSA to the Militant tendency. DSA is not infiltrating small party meetings under the discipline of democratic centralism to select candidates. They're winning primaries. They don't have those for MPs in the UK.

Platner being replaced by an actual DSA-endorsed candidate with 0% chance of turning Fetterman is quite the salutary outcome.
If I may suggest a compromise for the Jewish Left conference: Curt Mills, a distinctly non-antisemitic critic of the US-Israel relationship on the right, should be allowed to speak on a panel. However, The American Conservative should not get a table. It is in no way an aligned publication.
