Hi all. Im Abi. All round nerd, roller derby player and scientist by trade.

The trouble with the “law”/legal environment is that it’s completely scientifically illiterate. Sex is not a binary. We know that. Yet the law continues to mandate it.

One random thought about why I love derby: Having your own derby name/number and having it on your own team top(s) And in my case helmet covers cos I have poor impulse control.

Picture of myself skating at a derby game, wearing a white team top with my derby name “heck a t” pronounced heck uh tee, followed by the number 808 and the logos for Manchester roller derby and the women’s flat track derby association

It’s been a hellish weak of heat stress, migraines and the lot. But I had a cool time at practice today. Love my teamies, always make me happy and part of something amazing.

When people imply rights are like a pie and you have to “share” them. Nope. For eg As a queer trans person I happily stand with other women, especially to support in areas that may not *directly* affect me, like reproductive care.

Why does it feel like the culture inherent in this social media ban without fixing wider stuff in society (I.e spaces for people to congregate like youth clubs) is just “punishment is character building”

Turns out this weekend is exactly one year since my first ever rookie roller derby game. Amazing sport, has helped me become a better person, find awesome friends and community and also get fit!

I STG my least favourite word and phrase right now is “clarity” and “dignity” when being used to say that groups of people are ok to treat as second class citizens

The whole report on younger generations seems to reveal the issues that permeate society - just my thoughts but the lie of “work hard and you will get what you want” is laid bare. Why play a game if the deck is stacked against you

Waiting for the “BiOlOgiCal AdvAnTage” crowd to turn on to the “women’s category” cheese rolling competition and Imply trans women are better at ragdolling down a hill

Lots of thanks to the skaters, officials and general folks i hung out with this morning. I needed that after a tough week. Roller derby is such a wonderful inclusive atmosphere.

Been in Ireland for a weekend with my roller derby team. Never once felt like I was a weirdo because I’m trans. Probably I look a bit alt and young to some tour groups in the same hotel I was, but it’s been lovely. Back to terf island soon. Sigh
