The reddest red. This is a volunteer cardinal flower that popped up in my back garden this year in the middle of the penstemon. A deer nibbled the original flower/bud spike, and so the plant grew new buds at the lower leaf junctions. Pretty cool! 🌱 #nativeplants

Mom, knitter, nature lover, murderer of invasive plants. Happiest in a chaotic garden.
Last year I spread seeds from my neighbor’s Columbine all over the place. Just threw them out there a deranged native plant fairy. It’s coming up *everywhere*. Next year is going to be CRAZY #nativeplants 🌱 🌼
Except here in maryland, where we’re up to three beaver attacks in the last few weeks 😬 (The first two are confirmed rabies though. Poor little water gophers 😔)
EVERY STORY ABOUT BEAVERS FOR THE LAST DECADE READS LIKE: WE RELEASED A DOZEN PADDLE TAILED LITTLE FREAKS AND THEY IMMEDIATELY BEGAN A TERRAFORMING PROJECT THAT REVERSED A CENTURY OF ECOLOGICAL DAMAGE IN THREE WEEKS.
Garage kittens seem to be feeling a bit better and happier now. The tuxedo is turning out to be really chill. Glad these babies are going to get some great homes soon :) Now to get the two older ones I keep seeing. 😩 #spayandneuter 🐱
One thing that’s become crystal clear to me this afternoon is that I am not equipped for this at all. 😿
They’re awfully cute. But for the love of god people, fix your cats and don’t let them roam!
Nothing like coming home and finding three feral kittens have taken up residence under my garage. Did not have cat tapping on my bingo card for this week
Man! It’s shawl week for #showmeyourknits and I’m nowhere near done with my very first shawl project. Oh well. A WIP photo will have to do. I really need to have this done when the weather turns because I love it so much :)
Our wingless carpenter bee passed way today. I like to think that it appreciated shelter from storms, and the nectar/sugar were were able to give it. Kiddo is very sad 😔 #bugsky 🐝
Everything sucks. So enjoy twenty seconds of mountain mint. 🌱 🦋 #nativeplants #pollinators
Apparently it’s #NationalMothWeek :) I don’t have fancy photos like some folks here do, but I do have lots of moths. Moths are great :) here’s a whole bunch of lovely moths, though I don’t remember all their names :) #bugsky
In addition to the wingless bee it seems I’ve made another new friend. I would die for this spider who guards my watering can. ❤️ 🕷️ #bugsky
We’ve adopted a wingless bumble bee. Currently my daughter is walking it around the garden and letting it crawl onto various flowers. She has an oak leaf that the bee climbs onto for rides around the garden. 🐝 🌱 #nativeplants #bugsky
It feels like I can’t do much about what is going on in Canada, and my government’s idiotic response to it. But I can pass this on at least: an7gc.ca/donate/

More denizens of the mountain mint. If you have the room, and love pollinators (and enjoy wasps) this is really a great plant to have around. And very low maintenance once it spreads and takes over 😂 🌱 #nativeplants 🐝 #bugsky
The sheer variety of fuzzy buzzies on the mountain mint is always so fascinating to me. This year I’m getting more honeybees than I usually see, as well. #bugsky #nativeplants #pollinators 🐝 🌱
The garden needs a weeding after being out of town, but butterflies don’t care. #nativeplants 🌱 #bugsky 🦋
Great resource for Maryland native garden enthusiasts, listing the specific host plants and preferred nectar sources for the different Maryland species of butterflies: dnr.maryland.gov/wildlife/Doc...

I love the bugs in my garden. ❤️ Also, Culver’s Root is so great but man I wish it bloomed bigger and longer. Hoping these spread and bloom more (it’s only year 2) #nativeplants #bugsky
A few years ago we had to take out a huge dying oak tree next to our garage. It’s made a bit of difference in the amount of light reaching the ground and now we have a number of fantastic native understory trees that have appeared and thrived (pawpaw, serviceberry, redbud). 🌱 🌳 #nativeplahts
I know there’s a lot of debate about cultivars of native plants but this one is so very pretty :) (Mercury rising tickseed). In the background: a coral honeysuckle, a later blooming penstemon, and some volunteer fleabane. 🌱 🌺 #nativeplants
I spent all morning outside doing my least favorite garden task of spring. I’m tired and filthy. But at least I had good company :)
Going through this entire thread is the very best thing I’ve done all week.
found a little buddy and brought her to a nice flower shrub, but why are her wings so mangled? :( #invertebrate
