If you made one million tax-free dollars every year and never spent any of it, it would still take you one million years to make accumulate one trillion dollars. There is simply no reason for any one person to ever accumulate that kind of wealth.

I pour my soul into writing and executing research grants to help improve our understanding of how to prevent child suicide deaths. The funding I’ve secured is respectable—but in the context of billionaire and trillionaire wealth, it’s pocket change. Make it make sense.

Kash lab at UNC is hiring a new technician (our current two are off to grad school!!) posting will go live soon, email me CV and names of references if interested.

NC folks: I am recruiting participants for an NIMH funded R01 on preteen suicide risk. The study is fully remote, and we're trying to enroll participants from across our state. We'd love to see this map get filled in with participants from every county. Please share our flyer with folks in your area

it's letter writing season in my field. Just my opinion here, but write your recommendation letters the way you'd want to read them. I get so bored with such standard, dry letters from recommenders. It's hard work, but tell us the story behind why we should be enthusiastic about your person!

no child should have to face scary thoughts of suicide on their own. yes, it’s sad that young kids have them. But it’s our job to figure out how to help. I’ve got a few studies going to do just that. First look at this work here: news.unchealthcare.org/2025/10/unc-...
