When I imagine what it feels like to fly... Anna Volk An Unfolding, 2026 Watercolor and oil pastel on paper #ArtSky #CreativeSky #OilPastel #Watercolor #AbstractArt

An abstract watercolor and oil pastel painting in vibrant shades of blue and teal. A central column of vertical lines in muted gold, soft pink, and cream flows upward, expanding outward into two large, fluid, wing-like shapes that sweep across the canvas. The background features a soft, blended gradient shifting from light cyan to deep navy blue, highlighting the linear strokes of the oil pastels, textured with sgraffito.

Maybe it's the crisp fall weather, but I've been having a love affair with creamy pastels lately. Deliciously cozy. Anna Volk Lifeline, 2026 Watercolor and oil pastel on paper Prints available here: www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/1849... #ArtSky #AbstractArt #Watercolor #OilPastel

An abstract multi-media artwork titled "Lifeline" featuring a vibrant blend of warm and cool colors. The background shows a soft, bleeding gradient transitioning from deep blues at the top and bottom into brilliant sunset hues of orange and red across the middle. A stark, vertical streak of textured crimson, pink, and pale yellow paint extends through the left side of the canvas. Branching out from this central form is a jagged, lightning-like line that slashes diagonally toward the upper right corner, highlighted with bright yellow and hints of green.

Celebrating spooky season in liminal space! This month's essay is an #eerie exploration of iconic movies, fine art, and internet lore. We'll find the #liminal hiding in plain sight and examine the elements that make it so #creepy. 🔗Read me: www.abstractsbyannavolk.com/blog/6078hfe... #ArtSky

Anna Volk, Mirror, Mirror, 2026, mixed media on paper.

Abstract mixed-media artwork featuring a sequence of nested rectangular borders that recede inward like an endless corridor or infinity mirrors. The outer frames are painted in deep velvety blues and textured gold leaf, while the innermost frames transition to stark white geometric patterns. In the center, a dark, empty void houses a faint, ghostly silhouette of a partial figure standing completely still at the final threshold.

This #triptych is a lesson in the physics of collapse and radical acceptance. I've seen it play out many times across different arenas. It's both personal and universal, so I think it's worth sharing. See ALT text for detailed #artist notes. ✨ Lessons in Physics: www.redbubble.com/people/abstr...

Title: Lessons in Physics — Panel 1: In Slow Motion
Medium: Watercolor on paper
Year: 2026

Artist's Note:
From a distance, even the compounding speed of falling objects seems to take a lifetime. When you take a wider perspective, the future's trajectory is not so much a mystery.

An abstract watercolor painting featuring a prominent, vertical pillar of deep reddish-brown and muted crimson stretching upward through the center. The background is a fluid wash of cool tones, with streaks of emerald green, turquoise, and cerulean blue blending into one another. Vertical brushstrokes give the piece a sense of downward motion, while a bright pop of lime green accents the lower right side of the central form.

Title: Lessons in Physics — Panel 2: From Grace
Medium: Watercolor on paper
Year: 2026

Artist's Note:
A fall from grace is often only spoken of in reference to the one falling, but think of the initial position: grace. Grace doesn't cling to what wants to drop. It's simply the witness.

An abstract watercolor composition with a soft, misty background of muted blues, earthy greens, and faint hints of red. Floating across the entire canvas are delicate, leaf-like shapes in shades of soft orange, pale yellow, and translucent green. Interspersed among these shapes are shimmering flakes and splatters of metallic gold paint, giving the piece a light, drifting, and ethereal quality.

Title: Lessons in Physics — Panel 3: Gold Rush
Medium: Watercolor on paper
Year: 2026

Artist's Note:
We see gravity through its aftermath, the shattering impact. It's a brutal teacher, but for the willing student the lessons are bound in gold and the future can be renewed.

A dense, mosaic-like abstract watercolor painting. The entire surface is divided into small, cell-like fragments filled with a vibrant, chaotic mix of saturated primary colors—deep reds, bright blues, and vivid greens mixed with dark shadows. Thick, organic lines of metallic gold paint track across the canvas like a web, filling the cracks between the fragments and binding the shattered pieces together.

#ArtPrompt No. 17: A Novel Idea📚 Think back to a written passage you've read recently. Translate it into art. I've been re-reading Sylvia Plath's 'The Bell Jar'. It's my favorite book of all time, and this piece is an ode to her musings on hot baths.🛀🏻 #ArtSky #BlueskyArt #Painting #AHotBath

An abstract acrylic painting featuring an overhead perspective of pink, blue, green, and yellow soaking tubs with white and champagne-colored bubbles. The background is a stark black and white honeycomb pattern, with transparent painted bubbles overlapping the shapes.

A close-up photograph of page 20 from Sylvia Plath's 'The Bell Jar', focusing on the passage where the narrator describes her love for hot baths and the feeling of everything dissolving away until she feels pure.

Faint, organic gold and tan lines weave through the background, enhancing the layered, tactile texture of the medium on paper.

#ArtPrompt No. 15: Everyday Beauty Paint a scene you look at every day, almost to the point of taking it for granted. Really notice it. Let it be visual poetry. This is my view from the couch where I drink coffee with my tiny family each morning. What would you paint? #ArtSky #Painting #Acrylic

Close-up photograph of an open sketchbook on a wooden table, showing a finished acrylic painting of a domestic scene. The painting depicts two green houseplants in white and terracotta pots sitting beneath a double window. Sheer white curtains with a light vine pattern are draped across the window, filtering bright sunlight. Vibrant green foliage is visible outside through the glass. Three squeezed paint tubes (black, yellow, and green) rest on the left page margin next to the artwork.

A tightly cropped vertical reference photograph focusing closely on a double window with warm wood frames. Two small potted plants sit centered at the bottom of the window ledge against an olive green wall. The bright daylight is filtered by sheer white curtains featuring embroidered vine patterns. #ArtPrompt No. 14: Comfort Painting 🎨✨ Paint in the most comfortable setting you can create for yourself and witness the effect. I chose painting in PJs on my back deck. The effect? Flow. When you feel safe and settled, creative blocks dissolve. #ArtProcess #ArtistOnBluesky #CreativeRitual

A smiling woman with long brown hair sitting on a blue cushion on her outdoor wooden deck. She is wearing a cozy light blue long-sleeve t-shirt. Spread out on a striped mat next to her are watercolor paints, a mug, and an open art journal showing a colorful painting and a mermaid tail.

A top-down, overhead view of a cozy outdoor painting setup on a blue and white striped rug. A large blue floor cushion sits next to two blue and white tropical leaf-patterned pillows. At the top, a round beige tray holds painting jars, brushes, and a tumbler. Next to it is an open 36-color watercolor palette and a small art journal showing a bright red and yellow painting and a blank page.

A close-up of an altered book art journal page featuring a painted mermaid tail in fluid shades of blue, purple, magenta, and teal watercolor. The scales are outlined in shimmering gold with tiny gold splatters across the page. Cut-out black text blocks on the right read: 'leave a little sparkle wherever you go'.

The Fates. Watercolor, coffee & ink on paper, 2023 Revisiting some old work. This is from a series I did on minor figures from Greek mythology. I've always loved telling stories through illustrative pieces like this. Accompanying poem in the alt text. #ArtSky #Watercolor #Mythology #Illustration

A stylized ink, watercolor, and coffee-stained illustration of the three Fates from Greek mythology. Three serene female faces emerge from a swirling pool of sepia coffee rings. Above them, a hand from a starry black sky pulls a single measure of thread from the pool to be cut by a large, prominent pair of scissors set against a deep purple background.

Accompanying poem by the artist:

The Fates

Spin. Measure. Snip.

We the weavers know
what you're made of,
how long you'll be,
where you'll go.

We lay paths without pardon
that neither human nor god can unwind.
To flee the course brings only burden,
the one we knew you'd choose in time.

Spin. Measure. Snip.

False Landing Watercolor and ink on paper, 2026. #ArtSky #Watercolor #Ink #SurrealArt #AbstractArt

Abstract watercolor and ink painting on textured white paper titled "False Landing." A stylize red bird hangs suspended in mid-air near a golden metallic loop. Below the bird, a solid block of light blue watercolor with cloudy white texture transitions into a curved apple slice shape with a bright red rind at the very bottom. On the far left, a heavy, textured black and red feather anchors the composition, contrasted by a delicate gold feather floating on a soft yellow background to the right.

Week 12 #ArtPrompt: Switcheroo 🎨Create with your non-dominant hand. Using my right hand forced me to slow down, deeply engage, and connect with my beginner's mind. Painfully awkward process, rewarding result. Blue Curtains Watercolor on gesso-primed paper, 2026 #ArtSky #Watercolor #SurrealArt

An abstract vertical watercolor painting titled "Blue Curtains," created entirely with the artist’s non-dominant hand on gesso-primed paper. The composition is framed on the left and right by thick, textured vertical pillars of deep teal and ocean blue paint, resembling curtains pulled slightly open. The framed window reveals large, vibrant clusters of abstract, scumbled florals in crimson reds, fiery oranges, and bright yellows. Because of the non-porous gesso primer, the watercolor has pooled and dried with intricate, crisp, and cellular textures. Above this warm, fiery core, the upper portion of the canvas transitions into a soft, dreamlike wash of light blue and white, evoking an open sky. The overall piece has a surreal, raw, and highly textured appearance.

Several pastel sticks (orange, yellow, black, green) are scattered along the left border of the workspace.
