Unlike most refugees (or children of refugees) playing in WC, Toure, Mabil & Irankanda came to OZ as part of our offshore Humanitarian Program not as asylum seekers. That was after we refocused the Program from around 2001 to give priority to sub-Saharan Africa.

Net migration for 2025 came in at 301k. 250k less than forecast by Adam Creighton in The OZ & 180k less than NPLT which was relied on by IPA, Daily Telegraph, Ben Fordham, Liberal Party & One Nation. But it’s still 75k above Labor’s longterm target of 225k.

So after all the Hanson kerfuffle yesterday, are we any clearer on Hanson’s permanent migration or net migration targets? Or how she would deliver those targets? Or on the costs of her policies?
