I’m a Daily Newser (Deputy Sports Editor). Proud U of Denver alum. Born in Germany, raised in Colorado and now call New York’s Hudson Valley home.

As George Lombard Sr. watched his son make his big league debut with the Yankees on Tuesday, he laughed at how he didn’t quite take a hint that was meant to get him to New York on time. The current Tigers bench coach was with his club in Seattle on Monday when Shelley Duncan gave him a call.

How George Lombard Jr.’s dad soaked in son’s ‘unbelievable’ Yankees debut

The younger Lombard was surprised that his dad, the Tigers’ bench coach, was able to make it to Yankee Stadium.

Just dawned on me: Sarah and I have both witnessed a Spain World Cup triumph in person. Sarah was in Sydney at Stadium Australia as Spain beat England, 1-0, in the 2023 Women's World Cup. I was in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium on Sunday as Spain beat Argentina, 1-0, in the 2026 Men's World Cup.

A few of us wrote about our most memorable moments from covering these World Cup games at MetLife Stadium this last month in today’s @nydailynews.com … and of course my memories take me back to DU and hockey. The press box at the old DU Arena was a great place to grow up.

Yes, there is plenty to dislike about FIFA and the bullies that run this tournament, but getting to attend a game with our pal Fabio reminded me that the fans are the ones that make this tournament special. Here is my @nydailynews.com article about our experience in Boston last week.

The spirit of the World Cup: One fan’s mission to spread his love for the game

Fabio Oliveira’s replica World Cup trophy was one of the top attractions at the group-stage match between Scotland and Morocco outside of Boston last week.

What a miserable embarrassment this is. The @nydailynews.com isn't endorsing anyone in this race, but that won't stop our trashy hedge-fund owners from extracting a few bucks out of our reputation and running this front-page ad, from an Anthropic-backed PAC, for two days right before the election.

This looks like an endorsement, but its not -- the wood of the Daily News should not be for sale! Our staff was mortified to wake up to a front page covered by a deceptive political ad for two days straight. Shame on Heath Freeman and Alden for selling our good name for a buck.

23 years ago this month, this email: "andy: you aced it! well, maybe not aced it, but damn close! we are working out final budget and it ain't over till it's over, but i think you can expect an offer. have a good weekend." ... This came from the head of the @nydailynews.com digital department.
