Time and time again, the people telling you we don’t need rent controls are the same people rubbing their hands as headlines like this become the norm.

📸 This weekend, ACORN members from across the country came together for our 2026 national conference! Building our union, growing our power and getting ready for what’s next 🔥
🔥 WE SHUT DOWN ONE OF THE UK'S BIGGEST LANDLORD CONFERENCES. While landlords and property investors were thinking up the best ways to line their pockets, we took the microphone to demand rent controls and force them to listen to the realities of renting in London. Rent controls now!
Less than 48 hours is all that stood between this family and the protection afforded by the abolition of Section 21. Now Linsey and her four children face being forced out of their home. We’re calling on Trinity Properties Trust to reconsider this eviction. 👇 www.change.org/p/no-fault-n...

📸 It’s been a busy week for our union! From stopping evictions, fighting against section 21s, securing compensation and repairs, warding off bailiffs, and a huge FOUR wins in one week for ACORN Bristol we’d have to say it’s been a job well done. Can’t stop won’t stop!
🚨 ACORN BRADFORD MEMBERS ARE ON RENT STRIKE🚨 Members in an apartment block in Bradford have been dealing with issues for years including sky high energy bills, damp, mould, broken lifts, and even security issues so bad that someone broke into a flat and died in there.
“People that you would never think would need to use a food bank, you see coming in. I see lots of people who I know work full-time here.” This is what a broken system looks like.
🚨The rent strike in ON. 🚨 Solidarity with our members in Bradford standing strong and starting their rent strike! ✊ After repeatedly raising concerns about conditions in their building, residents are turning up the pressure. When tenants stand together, they’re impossible to ignore.
☀️ Britain is getting hotter every year and renters are being trapped in homes that are impossible to cool. By 2050, 92% of UK homes are expected to overheat, yet landlords are still allowed to do the bare minimum while tenants are left to suffer through dangerous heat indoors.
No matter who’s in power, organised people are the force that wins change. That’s why we stand with our neighbours, fight for our communities and make sure those in power are held to account. Get organised with ACORN. 👇 acorntheunion.org.uk/join/
More and more working class people are being forced to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table, while corporations continue to profit from crisis after crisis. We can’t afford to keep living like this. The only answer is collective power. Join us! 👇 acorntheunion.org.uk/join/
🚨 The Renters’ Rights Act comes into force tomorrow. It’s a set of new laws designed to rebalance power between tenants and landlords, making things more secure, more stable, and fairer for England’s 12 million renters. Here are some of the highlights:
Only 5 directors of water companies have been prosecuted for their crimes in the last 30 years. They can poison rivers for years and walk away. But fall behind on a payment and it’s bailiffs at your door. Impunity for them. Enforcement for us.
Candidates from across Wales have backed ACORN's People's Platform🔥 This is an an opportunity for accountability - the promises candidates make now are the changes we expect to see if they win the election. If you don't see your candidate, drop them a line and ask them to support a fairer Wales! 🏴
In 2023-24, private renters on the lowest incomes in this country spent on average 63% of their income on rent, leaving them with less than half to live on just to pay their landlord. This is what happens when housing is treated as a profit machine. It’s indefensible.
🚨 Renters, know your rights! You cannot be refused a home for being on benefits or having children. These upcoming protections apply across the entire renting process.
🚨Renters, know your rights! New enforcement rules in the RRA give you more support. This is a brief overview of key changes in the new legislation. To see the changes in full, and how they will apply to you you can go to www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2025/2...
Creeping privatisation is destroying our NHS while lining the pockets of the wealthy. We need to kick these vultures out of our healthcare service and bring it back in house.
🚨 Renters, know your rights! The new rules on rent increases mean increases will be limited to once per year and must be carried out through the correct legal procedure, with at least 2 months’ notice. If you believe an increase in unfair, you have the right to challenge it at a tribunal.
🚨Renters, know your rights! The upcoming end of fixed term contracts means more security and control for tenants. Your home won’t just come with an expiry date anymore.

🚨 Renters, know your rights! With the end of Section 21 coming up soon, it’s important to know where you stand so your landlord can’t try to use a lack of knowledge to force you out of your home.
Rent freeze in Spain. Free public transport in Victoria and Tasmania. All while our rents are skyrocketing and public transport costs are going through the roof. It’s not good enough.
