It feels apocalyptic up here in Ontario. Sometimes I truly wonder why I bother saving my pension.
You know how fascism never works, partly because the leader never gets accurate information due to underlings fearing for their lives? Is this not how most of corporate America works?
I just built one of those DIY watch kit things and whilst I'm really pleased how it turned out, that was the most stressful 90 minutes of my life
So where is the accountability for the execs who've been pushing AI for two years, only to just now discover the world's most obvious rug pull? Everyone on the ground saw this coming. Will a single exec in any company pay a price for the short-sightedness?
I feel like this is intuitive if you've ever had any dealings with HR. Their entire job is to protect the king
New research sheds light on how mediocre employees, “loyal losers,” help would-be authoritarians maintain power. 🎁 www.nytimes.com/2026/05/18/w...
It's so windy here that our boat broke free of its mooring and washed up on a neighbour's beach. Had to go rescue it whilst raining sideways. Just last weekend, it was so windy that the boat capsized on its mooring and we had to run out and right it. Why is my boat trying to kill itself?
I think this is the first year I've not watched the Google I/O keynote in maybe 20 years? Truly do not give a shit about the latest thing they're wedging Gemini into, or previews of features that are "coming soon" and never ship
Immediately chipped my good plane whilst cleaning up the other vintage wooden plane. Why does it have nails in it?!?
I bid on a Stanley #4 plane on Sunday on a whim and collected it today - turns out it's from 1888. That is extremely cool. Can't wait to clean it up and sharpen it.
Me, last week: you know, I'm quite enjoying using Cursor and churning out code Me, today, after a requirements change: oh god oh fuck what have I done

For 4 months of the year I wonder why the hell we live here, and then a single sunny day in May, spent on the water, makes me change my mind completely. Also possibly the effect of beer gardens being open again.
I have a Number 5 jack plane arriving tomorrow and I'm super excited. I am old.
Project Hail Mary was frankly excellent. A really enjoyable film.
I hope the oil crisis spurs more interest in solar here in Canada. I would love to set up some balcony solar panels.
Guess who drilled into two live electrical circuits today... Twice
Man, the AI bubble is going to pop so fucking hard thanks to... err... the Iran war? Not what I had on my bingo card but I'll take it
I wrote a long rant about "AI" today in which I described Jack as an "insepid Rasputin-drawn-from-memory and serial company-destroyer", but I'm not sure posting it on my blog is a good idea in this environment. Couldn't waste that burn, though.
Truly incredible the amount of damage Elon and Jack have done to the tech industry in a few short years.
This whole thread has made me quite sad. This industry is not what it was sh.reddit.com/r/Experience...

Today would have been a beautiful day for skiing but my skis are in the shop noooooooooooooooooooooooo
I was just talking about this with my manager and skip today. There's definitely a bit of a glass ceiling in these sorts of roles.
Not sure if unscrupulous business or North Korean espionage ops
It's incredible beautiful outside but far too cold for my cameras :(
I *despise* people using AI to write announcements at work. If you can't be bothered to write it, why should I bother reading it?
