Happy Simcoe Day in certain parts of Ontario, when John Graves Simcoe goes house to house teaching children about the Family Compact and the tricameral legislature of Upper Canada
"Hmm we should clean this mould off the bathroom ceiling" has now turned into spraying and scraping and spackling and sanding and priming and painting

At the theatre for The Odyssey! I can't remember the last time I saw a movie in the theatre that wasn't Marvel or Star Wars or Star Trek
Finally watched Project Hail Mary, which was great. I didn't realize it was written by the same guy as The Martian but that makes sense. They solve a problem with fun science, everybody's happy and nobody dies...well except the other astronauts we don't really care about
I've had actual nightmares about this kind of thing happening. And honestly Minervini and Gaggero would be FAR better at this than me. Like, there's them, and some other people, and then waaaay down the list is me. Maybe...maybe "initial stages" means "just a thought." Maybe I should email them...
A month ago I left myself this note as I was falling sleep but I have no idea why
I did this years ago on Twitter, but, here's a list of tools/utilities that every medievalist show know about and have bookmarked: #medievalsky
Once again "I can't find this resource anywhere so I will simply contact the author" turns out to be easy and fun and cool and makes everyone happy!
Bah, I almost got the Sporcle badge where you have to play a US Presidents quiz for 47 days in a row but I forgot yesterday!
In undergrad some other kids wanted to buy my notes for one class, since I took a lot of them and got a good mark. But I didn't want to sell them, since it was a lot of hard work and why should someone else benefit from that without doing anything?
"If we watch The Odyssey you can't make comments the whole time about everything that's wrong" "I promise NOTHING"
When I lived in France, I learned an important phrase from this wacky commercial, "à table" = dinner time, but also the way people actually speak is much faster and it sounds more like "à tab". I couldn't remember what it was for but this was enough info to find it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6SS...

Tomcats (2001) and nothing even comes close to it. Boys and Girls (2000) is maybe a distant second place
What's the worst movie you've ever watched in a theater? defector.com/whats-the-wo...
This local pizza place that keeps changing names and may or may not be a mafia money laundering front has an AMAZING sesame seed crust pizza
Letting Argentina constantly attack at the end of the match hasn't worked for any other teams so far...
Someone's been messing with the sky settings, this is the wrong colour. Wildfires are hundreds of kilometres away but it looks and smells like they're right outside
We're getting rid of an old couch so we thought we should dig through it just in case there's anything valuable in there. We found: (1) the remote control for the TV speaker system, and (2) my old cell phone that the kids had been using to play games, which they lost years ago
It's weird to be described as an "old stock Canadian"...from the perspective of my wife's family who immigrated here only two generations ago, it's literally true To me that phrase is a racist dogwhistle, but for normal people who aren't terminally online, it's just a fun thing to say
Thought I should make a new thread for this...one of the comments from the reviewers is that I should distinguish between "dower" and "dowry" when translating the French "douaire" in the Burgess Assizes, so at first I thought oops, I just didn't notice the difference
A fun story involving medieval France and Morocco is that the English King John supposedly tried to ally with the Almohad caliph against Spain and France, including handing over English territories in France (Gascony/Aquitaine) and agreeing to convert to Islam
It's great that the library has basically zero physical copies of any new books and only links to electronic versions that I can't personally access with my alumni card. Just super helpful.
I got the squeakiest, ricketiest shopping cart at the grocery store again
The kids came to me looking very distressed. What's wrong, are they sick? Hurt?? Dying?!?! "There's a long carrot in the bag of baby carrots"
