Home for a few days. Lots of cranes on the Cork City skyline!

From Cork, Ireland. 🇮🇪 Living in Sweden 🇸🇪, working in Denmark 🇩🇰. BSc Geography UCC.
Two things in Copenhagen that you'd never see in Ireland. 1. A metro system 2. Public transport timetables with half-minute accuracy
I've always been fascinated by borders so I really enjoyed this book. A blend of history and travel, both quirky and depressing, from Clones to Chernivtsi. I'm very inspired to visit some of these places! Fittingly, I read a lot of this on my cross-border commute! 🇸🇪🇩🇰 @lewisbaston.bsky.social
A geographical pilgrimage to Smygehuk, the southernmost point of Sweden. 🇸🇪 Closer to Cork than it is to the northernmost point of the country.
Home is looking well!
This rare cloud-free image of Ireland, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 29 April 2026, provides an exceptional view of the island, revealing its surface in full spring detail. eu-space.europa.eu/components/e...
Question for anyone else from #Cork: Does anyone know where Glankittane/Clankittane Square was in the city? I know it was near the barracks but i can't find the exact location of the square anywhere. Was it demolished or renamed? Trying to find where my ancestors lived based on the 1926 Census.
As someone who wastes too much time zooming around Google Maps, its great to see an expanded area of 3d imagery for #Cork, including Ballincollig, Carrigaline, Midleton and the harbour. The imagery for the city was also updated. You can tell it isn't too recent as the R&H Hall is still present.
This wasn't here the last time I was home! Great to see #Cork once again building taller than Dublin!!!
Great to see more density in the city. Looking forward to seeing the progress during my next trip home. #Cork
Cork's tallest residential building is taking shape, with the Railyard tower's core now standing at over 85.5m after a 10-day non-stop pour. csalert.ie/BifNTX
I first heard about Malmö's connection to Fairytale of New York around last Christmas. Finally found the plaque today! It's at Hotel Temperence, just down the street from Fagan's Irish Pub #Sweden
Lund 🇸🇪 (pop: 95,000) is less than half the size of Cork 🇮🇪 (pop: 225,000) yet it has its own modern tram line. One of many things this small Swedish university city does so well.
Student accommodation is needed in Cork, but surely a more suitable use could be given to such a central and prominent location in the city?
When there are no Centra delis in Sweden so I make my own chicken fillet roll...
Spent a few hours in Manchester today while transferring flights between Copenhagen and Cork. Loved seeing a T-Rex with a Santa hat in the Manchester Museum! #paleontology #fossils #dinosaurs
Today is 2025-12-13, the sun sets at 16:05:43 and the grand auld stretch tonight was 00 mins and 00 secs. #GrandStretch #ZeroStretch

Carved turnips look even scarier a few days after Halloween!
Great to see, but progress has been slower than a 220 on Western Road. #Cork
The government has approved BusConnects Cork, a multibillion-euro plan to overhaul the city’s transport network with faster, greener buses and 95km of new cycle lanes. The project will add over 50% more bus services, including two new 24-hour routes jrnl.ie/6859759
Finished reading The Lie of the Land by @thinkorswim.bsky.social this morning. I'd highly recommend this to anyone trying to wrap their head around the climate crisis, and what Ireland can do to mitigate and adapt to it. The book does a brilliant job at making the overwhelming understandable.
