Thing about the Kennedy Center saga is that it’s minuscule in terms of actual immediate harm. It’s not “We’d totally return those flights, but [gestures in national security].” It’s just, explicitly, “We refuse to follow the law. Correct. That’s the core issue. And here’s where we stand on that.”

As you might imagine, a lot of things happen at Marine Corps boot camp that would be out of place in polite society. But one thing was ALWAYS crystal clear. You do not fuck with recruits’ mail. Unless, that is, you want to do big boy federal crimes.
