To commemorate the 10th(!) anniversary of the launch of #NoMansSky, I’ve made available one of my last two (100 made) pin badges for the No Man’s Sky Archaeological Project, which was the cornerstone of my #archaeogaming PhD thesis. I will ship internationally. www.ebay.com/itm/13762242...

Solo red hot chili pepper in my garden today 🌶️ with another one on the way. I will call them Flea and Anthony.
My crush on #Iceland (landscape, culture, media, people) has been further reinforced by the film Woman at War (now on US Netflix).
Let us reclaim Orange from that nasty Julius: recover the joy of the Cheeto, the power of powder in our Mac & cheese, the brilliance of the billions of day lillies, the clouds of desert sunsets, sweet marmalade on toast, and the hellish flames that lick the soles of ill-fitting Florsheim shoes.
Cicada husk on my day lily. Waukegan, Illinois. August 10, 2026.
Cleo crossed the rainbow bridge today on International Cat Day. She was 18. Pictured here as Jeff Goldblum at a Christmas party (left), and this morning (right).
Reskeeting for the evening crowd of Friday revelers who drunk-shop for online music because they’re craving either a sweet sweet EDM lift or melancholy riff—boy howdy do I have those in spades for you. Please listen to the wine and pull the trigger today, #BandcampFriday. #Bandcamp

This book arrived today. Dirt Meridian is a collection of Andrew Moore’s aerial photographs of landscapes and the built environments atop them, shot in large format over oft-forgotten or ignored Plains states. The book communicates both hope and resilience of people who inherited the sky.
Flat top grill at Frank’s Diner, Kenosha, Wisconsin. August 3, 2026.
My brother is visiting, so only the best Chicago treats for him
Cactus at the Chicago Botanical Gardens. August 2, 2026.
Why are we calling it “DJT’s Second Term” instead of “President Evil 2”?
I finally saw The Odyssey. I will say about the film what I do about video games set in a reimagined antiquity: if they foster curiosity and questions about the past as well as a return to primary sources, they have served their purpose. This film did that.
Reskeeting for the breakfast/lunch crowd: here’s a brand new tune, which calls back to ‘90s guitar rock and ‘80s goth vibes 👇
A little night music for you all. Here’s my new single, “Virtual Light” (instrumental version), which is a bit of Slowdive crossed with Mogwai and a hint of Joy Division. Somebody call Creation Records. I was going to share this tomorrow, but I really like the tune :) m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9lj...

Any ideas for how to rescue hundreds/thousands of archaeologists and field techs in a post-106 fallout? Public comment on the ACHP’s decision will likely be ignored, which might lead to an implosion of an entire industry. I hope I’m wrong as I preemptively fire up the resume machine. #archaeology 🏺
Lake Bluff, Illinois criterion bike race. July 25, 2026.
I see that it’s #AskAnArchaeologist Day. Once upon a time I studied #DigitalArchaeology and #Archaeogaming. I’m now directing #CulturalResourceManagement aka #CRM projects in the Great Plains. I’m happy to try to answer your questions on any/all of the above. #archaeology 🏺
Another long trip, and I return to a refreshed garden: hasta flowers, an emerging sunflower bloom, morning glory, yellow coneflowers.
Crew dinner last night at Dink’s BBQ in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. I replenished all of my calories with pork ribs, pulled pork, sliced brisket, hot links, baked beans, fried okra, green onions, and bread, with onion straws to start. Not pictured: blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.
I have so much dirt worked into my hands after a month in the field in Oklahoma that I feel like Lady Macbeth scrubbing, scrubbing.
