Ring-barrow, the Curragh, Co Kildare. The aerial photo shows a probable ring-barrow that has been incorporated into the McDonagh pitch and putt club. The photo from 1970 shows evidence of several possible features and areas of disturbance.

Back to Co Louth for another Georgian gem. Townley Hall was built in the 18th century. The photos here are from 1965, 1970, and 1971 when it was owned and used by Trinity College Dublin. There is an open house 22 August from 10am-3pm as part of #heritageweek

Castledermot, Co Kildare, 1963. Close up of Franciscan friary, 1963. St James Church and round tower, 1969. Can you spot the round tower in the 1st photo? The town has a rich medieval and religious history that will be explored in a #heritageweek talk on Aug 22 from 10:30am - 12pm.

Mountmellick, Co Laois, 1970. The Grand Canal ran through the town but closed in 1960 and is now filled in. The canal can be seen to the left of the main road in the 2nd photo. Its proximity to Portlaoise led to a significant population explosion, with many of the fields in the 1st image developed.

The Rock of Dunamase, Co Laois was a popular subject, photographed 3 times in July of 1963, 1964, & in color in 1969. The photos provide an image of pre-conservation architecture & a good look at the defensive nature of the rocky outcrop. A #HeritageWeek talk is scheduled for August 19, 7-9 pm.

Castletown House, Co Kildare. Photos taken June 26, 1963 - in private ownership. 2 years later the house was sold & left vacant before a series of individual, community, & state efforts rescued it. #HeritageWeek events are on throughout the week and the grounds themselves are worth the visit alone!
