Geek, pilot, photographer, foodie, sailor, tea snob, gamer, costumer, uglyDog (She/Her) Cantabrigia status mentis est. Was @aeronaute on Twitter, pre-Elmo. If you're promoting any AI thing, seriously, nobody wants that crap!

I think I might need to get a cover for the new Snapmaker U1 3D printer, sooner rather than later. It's going where the X1C is now, and Drummer frequently camps the top of the AMS to spot birds, squirrels, and bunnies. I think both my prints, and the cat, will be happier for a closed top.

A tortie cat stares out a window while perched atop the AMS sitting over the X1C.

Having a 3D printer is another level of impulse shopping. Saw the pen stand in Reacher S04E02 last night. Woke up this morning to take this off my 3D printer. Did I need it? Absolutely not. But now I have it. (The pen was pre-existing.)

An armoured knight statue, in white plastic, kneels on a brown desk blotter, proffering a Leonardo Momento Zero Gravity pen.

I wish Bluesky would prioritize individual follows over blocklist inclusion. Mass blocklists can keep one from seeing a lot of crap, and are useful. But sometimes, I disagree with their inclusion of someone, and wish I could still see those posts without throwing out the rest of the list.

If you currently use the Kobo reader app for iOS/iPadOS, you'll want to hold off on trying the iOS/iPadOS 27 beta software. The Kobo app currently crashes on opening on the 27 betas. I expect that Kobo will release an update to fix this before the general release in September, but as of now, no.

It's surprising how much I'm seeing about the Maine senate race, in the last few days, given that I muted the name of the Dem nominee months ago because I couldn't stomach all the people propping him up. I'm only seeing threads that don't mention that name, and it's still depressing.

Important tip: DO NOT use a robot mop to clean up cat pee! When the base unit washes and blows hot air on the roller to dry it, it will enhance the stench, and waft it through the house. Don't ask me how I know this.

Drummer seems to like sliced deli ham. It's the one human food she will consistently eat. I'm not sure if I should feel good for finally finding a human food she likes, or worry how kibble adjacent my deli ham is.

I think the plan all along is to drape the curtain from the scaffolding, so nobody can see that the letters are still there. The scaffolding was never to support workers removing letters. It was a frame to hold the curtain.

humans have known how to construct a shoulder seam for thousands of years, but with AI, we are unlocking untold new ways to fuck it up

Teams have to wash and steam #WorldCup shirts to remove shoulder bulges. "Nike boasted about the use of 'computational design'… driven by performance data that incorporated elements of AI to work alongside the company’s designers as they crafted the kits." How could they even ship these?! Shame.

Had what I thought was a dead switch on my keyboard. No problem, I have spare switches. Pulled the keycap to expose the switch and could barely see it under the thatch of accumulated cat hair. Once I pulled that all out, the switch seemed fine, so I put the keycap back. I should do the whole board.

I've spent a frustrating evening looking at software for the iPad. I want the sort of thing that can run entirely on the iPad, with the results stored locally. There's no need for remote servers for storage or processing. I will NOT pay a subscription to enable necessary features! There are so many!

So, I just fired up my Windows machine for the first time since the fall of 2024. It needs updates, clearly. Is there something I can do in the update process to avoid the AI crap that MS is going to try to shovel at me, or will I just have to try to root it out, later?

TIL that the UK flag isn't just usually drawn by people that are bad at symmetry. Looking at the blazon, it really is supposed to be that way, to represent Ireland and Scotland equally. So yes, it could be upside down. So glad Canada no longer uses it on the Canadian flag.

Every time some flunky says a White House ballroom is needed for security, because it's dangerous to leave the WH grounds, the followup question should be "Will the president be avoiding trips to private, insecure golf clubs?"

I'm here because my ancestors ate what they had to to survive. From our future of abundance, we can look back on some of those choices and opt not to put that disgusting thing in our mouths. But I appreciate the ingenuity and determination that let them survive. When I was young, some of these...

What's the worst food from *your* cuisine? None of that "oh, one region over they eat some awful shit." Remove the beam from your own eye. And I'm calling dibs on aspic, so you can't pick that one. My mom threatened to make it for me the other day.

A dish of aspic: a jellied suspension of shredded meat and vegetables, garnished with a single sad sprig of parsley.
