lrt kind of perplexed by that take about “you just want to get paid to draw dragons” being from a guy who gets paid to 3d model cars. a lot of commercial art is a product before it’s anything else but I don’t think that makes it Not Art
this is just confusing the field of Illustration with the wider Visual Arts, and Illustration has served largely commercial purposes the entire time it has existed. most great Mucha and Leyendecker pieces were ads. If you want art that talks about the human condition, go to a museum

For many, it's something they can contribute to the TTRPG / video game / animation / tv industries - NOT something to express their humanity and POV. They don't want to talk about the human condition, they want to get paid to paint dragons.

ive been watching a lot of tech videos recently and ive noticed that "doomscrolling" has apparently turned into a kind of buzzword that people are using to refer to general social media/phone addiction, which is not super surprising, but i keep noticing it
