I am convinced that Tuchel was tricked by the outcome of the Mexico game and over-rated his team's ability to sit in late. The difference is that Mexico looked devoid of ideas, and Argentina has the best player of all time and a ton of additional options. To play 11 behind the ball was madness.

New this morning: "Value of Reliable Statistics" from Bloom, Groshen, Hobbs and Strain. Kicker quote: "Our baseline estimate implies that preserving trust in the integrity and quality of official statistics generates economic benefits of about $25 for every $1 spent on the agency’s budget."

We can't agree on much in this country, but we can agree that Costco rotisserie chicken slaps.
A bipartisan group of senators has introduced the Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act to allow Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants to purchase hot rotisserie chicken with their benefits.
So many people have a bitter taste in their mouth about economics because their first class just became an algebra class. My intro prof in college had almost no math other than calculating elasticities, and focused solely on intuition. This is the way.

You guys, Marc Andreessen (who loves 'old books') says there was no introspection until 100 years ago (there's an error in the subtitles: he says 'Freud and all' invented introspection ca. 1910s-20s) n.b. no tech lord ever quotes an author specifically, it's all Khan Academy bullet points
If it weren't for Burnley, it would be possible for Nuno's team to escape, only at the expense of all of Nuno's old teams.

I have been reading Incident at Vichy by Arthur Miller before bed, and man, if there were ever a time for someone to do this play, its now.

Trying to decide if my get-rich-quick scheme should be coaching an SEC football team and getting fired or coaching Manchester United and getting fired. I can do equally well at both jobs, in that the point is to get fired.
Just had Gemini write my README files for a project, and holy smokes, if all we can do is get rid of the drudge work, this is a huge leap.

Washington is again looking for a new kicker. The Commanders announced they released Matt Gay, cutting ties with the veteran roughly 24 hours after he missed a pair of field goals — including what would have been the game-winner — in Madrid.

While the de minimus exemption causes lots of people to realize how tariffs are impacting them directly, I am reminded of the long literature on the different effects of *where* taxes are collected and how that impacts their salience. Should be fun to read the papers in a few years on this topic.
A really cool paper, with lots more to come on the claims front.

My daughter started at a new school and has had a tough time fitting in. I learned yesterday that she joined a "recess club" of girls who kill lantern flies and dismember them, bringing their wings to science class as trophies.
Weather radars were lighting up Thursday with signals that would ordinarily suggest rain — but no precipitation was in the forecast. Instead, radars have been capturing a massive swarm of spotted lantern flies descending on the Mid-Atlantic.
