Not the actor from Star Wars, Dr Who, or The Tweenies - asking me trivia on any of these risks fabricated replies. Open to exchanging opinions on Leeds, music, politics, Age of Sail navy, and vague memories of the 20th century.
small, single corridor shopping centre in Stevenage Old Town. Called the 'Magnet centre' after the family that owned the land. odd nik-nak and dress shops... ...and in the mid-90s briefly, hidden at the back, the town's first comic shop. we discovered it as teens. it was like finding heaven /1
tell me about your town’s weird mall

Reprehensible behaviour…but, bloody hell. Dropping your child, making the catch, and retrieving her before she even starts to fall….
Possibly the greatest single male athletic performance of all time Original post
I've often pondered the dilemma faced by Yorkshire vegans... What one of these two facts do they tell you first? #YorkshireDay
Went to the cinema & a couple sat by me, & were grumbling & then got up and moved & it made me feel paranoid. What had I done? Then they called the manager out and & pointing at the seat which had dry white stains. Manager scratched at it and tasted it. Ice cream not spunk. The bravery of that man.
Saw a satisfyingly big shooting star last night - bright enough that it was visible against the glow of a city sky, and big enough that it broke up, trailing sparks like a firework (but higher and faster than one could ever be). Very pleasing.
Imagine being immortalised with the words “So - shout out to that guy” thousands of years after your death. Learning why the Trojans got massacred, rather than just wondering why the Greeks left a lid of dead guys in a horse…
How long could soldiers have survived inside the Trojan Horse? I know it’s the question that haunted us all through the movie*, so I did the math! *only me youtu.be/iiruwIMfpbo?...
A fabulous day at work (I know, I know - but you don't work on a boat in Cardigan Bay, pointing at dolphins for the delight of tourists!). I got some of my best photos to date and I'm hopeful of getting one of one of the new born calves tomorrow - missed them today.
Disappointed @zackpolanski.bsky.social isn’t savvy enough to just apologise. Reform must be over the moon. They get to play the wronged victim, dominate the news cycle with bullshit rather than Farage scrutiny. There’s nothing wrong about saying sorry for a mistake - really poor politics.
My children are competing to see which of them does the best elk impression, and the neighbourhood WhatsApp is discussing who is free to give a pigeon a lift to Rotherham. How’s everyone else’s evening?
Woah! #lufc are off the chain! We’ll sign anyone, no matter who they look like or what they’re called!
🚨🟡🔵 Leeds United reach verbal agreement with Man City for club record deal to sign John Stones, here we go! Club to club deal in place for £40m plus add-ons, long term deal offered to Trafford. Signatures expected this week - follows @David_Ornstein @GrahamSmyth.
Our annual visit to the Heckington Show got badly out of hand - there's something like a hundred posts here - so if you want some lunchtime reading but don't want to go though the whole thing here's an index.
It's the last weekend in July, and that means only one thing... Shall we go to the village show?
Charles Grodin was 53 in Midnight Run! Just rereading Catch 22, and realised it was Grodin that had played Arfy in the movie, but that seemed like a long time before Midnight Run…checked up, and it was! 18 years between the films. De Niro was 44, and I always thought Grodin was younger. #filmsky

Boatcrunch klaxon @dreadships.bsky.social - no serious injuries, but I’m imagining some very smug firefighters taking every opportunity to laugh at soggy coppers. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is insane. Harrison is still only 29?!? HOW? #lufc
🏴 BREAKING: New England Revolution are nearing a deal to sign English winger Jack Harrison from Leeds United, per sources. Harrison will join Revs as a DP. The 29-year-old made 219 apps for Leeds. Spent second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina www.nytimes.com/athletic/746...
Loathe the media misery vultures. The utter pointlessness of this intrusion into a family’s loss, emergency services having to deal with the aftermath. There was helicopter footage of the beach, that zoomed in on TV camera crew standing around doing nothing, as if there was any point in that.
This disingenuous commentary doesn’t help anyone. Frauds start unravelling pretty quickly. That you apparently cannot afford to put your oven or treat yourself is quickly undermined by the question “so why are you spending £50 per week on petrol?” Then, it turns out, she has an agent and /1
Elaine in this article "can't remember the last time she used her oven" but also spends £200 a month on petrol (so driving probably ~50 miles a day?) (she's also a professional old person; she was on Good Morning Britain last year, and then also at the Nov budget, and the year before lmao)
Big meeting, international client - their IT dept had been scaring their board about flakey upstart internet developers not doing *real* computing. At lunch my CTO sought me out to tell me someone in the boardroom was shifting major volumes of pawn across our network during the meeting.
I once had a supplier demanding an extension to a tender submission deadline (about an hour before it expired) because he was sitting in a caravan somewhere on the south coast and the WiFi was bad. He was not granted an extension, unsurprisingly
Curious what the arc of this story was - Saturday the media was reporting new drilling license policy would be announced, Sunday Labour’s chair was calling it an adjustment rather than a manifesto reversal, then Monday…nothing. Was it ever real? Did Labour pull it?
Starmer convinced me to leave Labour, and if the drilling license story is right, Burnham will have convinced me to join @greenparty.org.uk

I suspect people dislike Cucurella for his hair as much as anything else, which is pretty superficial, given he’s got a really irritating run too. #esparg

Are they shit or is this just making that bollocks against Argentina even more painful? #engfra
Do people just read shit on Twitter and come to Bluesky to eyeroll about it? I have seen *nobody* on here moan about The Odyssey, but my timeline is full of people fiercely rebutting these non-existent people. Like anyone really knows what happened to Bill after The Goodies split up anyway…
