My novel, Catch 2020: The Covid Deliria of Brian Jackson https://amzn.eu/d/5Np49ZH available at Amz on kindle or paper version. Next novel wip is on use of immersive VR in palliative care. Bio: Wilms survivor / LFC / tech / v slow old jogger

Odd how quickly LFC went from a team with +/- world class in every position at peak Klopp, to a scratch looking side assembled at great cost but to limited effect, w huge holes and poor physicality for PL. Szob probably the only top player at their peak. Interested to see what magic Iraola can work

Heavy loss for #LFC in preseason tour game is a sign my #booksky reading stats for 2026 are likely to hold up! 28 books down as at end July. In 2024 I barely cleared 20 in the year as I get more pulled into fan media when the team's performing well...

Meanwhile I have just started the Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolaño. The initial section seems to be the musings of a 17yo poetry student in Mexico City. Grateful at this point for my undergrad education in Lat Am fiction...

Just begun Gnomon by Nick Harkaway, as recommended by @authoredrobins.bsky.social and @aidenw.bsky.social I liked Titanium Noir and Sleeper Beach by the same author, but this is something else altogether.

Front cover of a hardback copy of Gnomon by Nick Harkaway. A black shark fin slices through falling sheets of blank white paper. The title and author's name in orange.

Recently read, may be in your lane: - couple of Head of Awkward Questions novels by Marianne Pickles; - The women could fly by Megan Giddings - The future by Naomi Alderman And if you like wacky, the Thursday Next literary detective novels by Jasper Fforde are a blast

who has good book recs for speculative fiction? big fan of Murderbot, the Expanse, recently enjoyed Service Model, Sublimation, Automatic Noodle, There Is No Anti-Mimetics Division, the Subtle Art of Folding Space; last year a lot of Ray Nayler and Octavia Butler bonus points for audio books

Delighted to hear it! When you’re done w/ the series, you may enjoy (if you haven’t read them) Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun, Jon Evans’s Exadelic, Susan Palwick’s The Necessary Beggar, Jo Walton’s Thessaly, Malka Older’s Infomocracy, John M Ford’s The Dragon Waiting, Walter John Williams’s Spin

I've only watched last night's highlights, but who'd have NI Patrick Kelly as a backup to #LFC Conor B? Shows you how good all the tiers of football are when the lad's playing for Barnsley and can perform like that

I'm currently chest deep in a @nickharkaway.com universe #Angelmaker in which language and scenes of this type are three a farthing, incl a bishop overseas who meets a painful, coppery demise. I just hit chapter 11 (55% in) where the wonderful Polly does us all a favour & recaps the whole caper 🎩

This is a nonsense poem I wrote years ago for my kids. I found myself reciting it this morning. Maybe it’ll brighten your Friday :)

Copper Feet
(Nick Harkaway)

As I went boldly down the street
I met a man with copper feet.
He said: “I beg to disagree!”
I said: “But surely not with me?”
“Why, yes!” averred the cupric bloke;
“But sir,” I said, “I have not spoke!”
“Indeed,” said he, and then reflected:
“It was your silence I rejected.”

I’m prob more interested in why some law degrees are a useless qualification: “…is from rural Lincolnshire and studied law at a university in Manchester… went in with the intention of becoming a lawyer, but early on was led to believe that would be impossible” www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Of course Bournemouth to #LFC is a huge leap. There is obviously a big question whether or not Iraola is ready for such an upgrade. But 100% support Iraola to #LFC. Exciting style of football to return. Impressive recent record. Premier league experience.. Let's go!

I have just come across a neuroscience term which is CSD "Constrained Spherical Deconvolution". Clearly ⚽ comes before 📚 in my brain because I immediately thought CSD sounds like one of many types of pre-season activity #LFC will need this summer

#LFC would not normally fire a manager 2y into a 3y contract if Y1 = PL win and Y2 = CL qualification. FSG totally don't care about fan opinion. So I assume this is bc Slot lost the dressing room. Whoever comes in has to restore running stats + rebuild the defence, starting with the front 3 press

Liverpool conceded 78 goals in 57 games in all competitions this season: 1.37 per 90 minutes. It breaks down almost perfectly into two halves. 2,589 mins with Alisson, Konaté and Van Dijk: 29 goals conceded, 1.01 per 90. 2,541 mins with any other combo of GK and CBs: 49 goals, 1.74 per 90.
