This hand-sewn contemporary women's wearing blanket by Mohawk multimedia artist Carla Hemlock features iconography interpreting Haudenosaunee history. Raised beadwork designs convey the significance of wampum, creation stories, and cosmologies.
At center, a map depicts the communities destroyed by George Washington's 1779 military campaign, known as the "Sullivan Expedition" after General John Sullivan, in upstate New York. The embroidered text reveals Washington's military orders, which devastated the British-allied Haudenosaunee nations during the American Revolution.“The immediate objectives are the total destruction and devastation of their settlements and the capture of as many prisoners of every age and sex as possible. It will be essential to ruin their crops in the ground and prevent their planting more.” General George Washington to Maj Gen. John Sullivan May 31 1779

Entire line at the drug store revolted, in multiple languages, to make the pharmacist manually check in a little old lady who couldn’t get her phone to read the QR code for her vaccine appointment. It was nice.

"This case revealed that the Department of Justice was willing to charge a labor leader with a crime, hold it over him for months, and then walk away from it once the charge couldn’t survive scrutiny,” the lawyers said. “That is not how a justice system is supposed to work.”

My teenager’s lock screen is her and a bestie in front of the pre-destroyed reflecting pool and the pool is just architecture but the fact that we’ve failed our children so spectacularly that they have fewer rights than they did when they were born is heartbreaking.
