#OpportunityCosts #ResourceCosts the world cannot afford. "It took 661 people to invent Dyson CameraJet™ Electric Toothbrush. Was there nothing else these brilliant & highly trained minds could have done?" #PlanetaryBoundaries www.ft.com/content/3c2b...
Coming up to 25 years - much has been said, and will be said I’m sure. But for those who recall it as if yesterday, this is worthwhile read (the author himself died last year).
Just had a very polite Reform party volunteer knocking on the door. What a day for that, eh. Offered him some oysters and bade him farewell.
Had an incredible conversation with wonderful humans @billmckibben.bsky.social and @ayanaeliza.bsky.social about why we don’t need Elon Musk (of all people) to “save” the earth by destroying the night sky and meddling with the weather. See our full Live: naomiklein.substack.com/p/climate-vs...
Lake America? Really? Is that the best he can do? A bit boring, innit?
Greenbelt was an important part of our yearly routine, for many years. Many good times had. May it be another enriching weekend for those going this year. “We’ll meet you by the drummers” “Which drummers?” “The irritating drummers!” “Which irritating drummers?” 😀
Hey Greenbelters, our gates are now OPEN! It's pretty moist this morning, so feel free to wait out the worst once you're parked up. If you're keen to get pitched you can always just bring your tent in for now and leave the rest of your stuff in your car (where it's nice and dry).
Richard Flanagan’s lecture is good (as you might expect), from the Festival of Dangerous Ideas. youtu.be/6XlJM5UYxCw?...

It’s difficult to convey to a generation younger than me, what the world was like before the ubiquity of streamed content. To them, CDs, cassettes and vinyl are a novelty, glad as I am for their enthusiasm for analogue media.
Got plans for tomorrow? Not yet. Good. Keep it free.
Right, so who's made a pinhole camera from an old box? (sticks hand up). #eclipse
Very few people I know who use the phrase “it isn’t rocket science”, are actually rocket scientists.
Well, obviously. I’m not sure the Highway Code requires e-scooter riders to actually look out for other road and path users* *never mind any legal specifics.
E-scooters far more dangerous than motorbikes or cycles, analysis suggests
Cider with added ‘sweeteners’ is an abomination. Particularly if it’s posh farm shop cider.
Back in our #GreenbeltFestival days. Chatting to Olivia and Tom about all things Rev in 2010. Haven’t attended GB for some years but were regulars in a previous life, and admire the ethos.
Passed through Caernarfon. Had a pint. Saw a good castle. Wales seems to have a thing for decent castles.
So, I finally did a TED talk, and it got released today. I seem to have been quite intense, but I'm grateful they left in my Trump joke. www.ted.com/talks/bill_m...
Our last, best chance to cool the Earth
We're living through oil wars, wildfire smoke and extreme weather driven by a warming planet. But environmentalist Bill McKibben says one thing is finally going right: the price of clean energy has pl...

Oh that’s a pain. Surely though, it’s all fearmongering and with enough datacentres, AI will solve the water shortage and bring world peace. Just one more datacentre ought to do it. Or maybe two. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Some years back I spent a bit of time working on an audio-visual install project in Oman. Uninspiring job but paid some bills. But…the rich guys living in the mansions were the ones who owned air-conditioning companies. Grim times ahead for the planet.
