Fun fact for readers of this post: Wikipedia has been a primary source of AI extraction for most of its existence, with major recognition of this research starting in 2011. link.springer.com/article/10.1.... What we are seeing now is the dream of 2000s "Wikinomics" materializing now.

wikipedia has been ANNIHILATED with AI bot traffic for a while now (because LLMs can't get enough of it) which puts a huge burden on its tech and server costs. and now it looks like bots are making unauthorized edits to pages and trying to hack community tools diff.wikimedia.org/2026/10/05/o...

I was today years old when I learned Dolly Parton recorded Woody Guthrie's song "Deportee (Plane Wreck At Los Gatos)" in 1980. It's a heartbreaking song about immigration and specifically deportation plane that crashed in 1948 killing dozens of Mexican "bracero" workers. Her version is beautiful💔
