This fall I learned not to be scared of looking at code. 💪🏾 Even though I’m not technical, I discovered I can tell whether the stuff specific to my domain knowledge is mapped correctly. Can I assess code smell? No. But I can tell if the content and logic is right. #buildinpublic

1/2Despite vociferous advice to the contrary, I chose to hire co-op students for the project this fall and it’s been amazing. They’re super smart and creative and there are a couple of them that I hope want to stay with the project in some capacity long term.

1/2 So quick update. I had a turning point this summer, when I discovered that the thing I'm building has a specialized name - it's a serious game. The ENTIRE mismatch between what I envisioned and what was happening was because I was describing my project as an app, not a serious game.

I got wordle in one again today. Husband: You should buy a lottery ticket. Me: That’s a great example of the hot hand fallacy (proceeds to launch into detailed explanation). Husband: You’re still really fun at parties aren’t you? 😂

I suspect one of the issues that I'm obsessing about is irrelevant to my potential users. I'm tying myself in knots over privacy, and not knowing the real world identity of potential users, and data sovereignty. This is stuff that *I* care about, and think others *should* care about, but they don't.

Where do people find early testers? Before starting building, I spoke with a bunch of people. However, what I’m building has a lot of different components. Each of each need to be tested and validated at the low Fidelity prototype stage. Where do I find these people?

I lost my 456 day Duolingo streak yesterday. I didn’t get the option to earn it back this time. And they wanted me to pay which I didn’t want to do. I’m wondering if this resentment that I’m feeling as a common reaction? It’s making me think hard about how I want to gamify/not gamify my app.

I’m looking for examples of consumer saas subscription models wherein the user can earn their subscription for free through consistent usage/hitting milestones.

I’m building a consumer as end user app, but all of the current monetization ideas that I’ve explored have big issues: - B2C subscription (including freemium) - B2B end user is not payor - marketplace (maybe later but not right away) - consumer acquisition as a service

Almost through IFS level 2 (Intimacy from the Inside Out). Main takeaway, is this: open hearted hearing of our partners - REALLY hearing with an open heart- on issues that give us strong feelings, is HARD. Like so hard it's hard even in role play. And yet it's what makes the whole difference.
