At yesterday’s Council meeting, I was proud to honor Donna Weems, who retired after leading the Renaissance Court Senior Center in the 34th Ward. Under Donna’s leadership, Renaissance Court grew into a place where seniors can gather, create, learn, & celebrate each other.
It’s disappointing that my colleagues are trying to bury this in committee, but I’m going to keep standing up for this commonsense path to tackle this problem immediately. We can’t risk delays while data centers keep building, polluting, & spiking utility bills.
Data centers spike utility bills, pollute our air, & drain our clean water. Mayor Johnson created a blue ribbon committee. I’m taking action with an ordinance to immediately require community oversight, add environmental enforcement, & ban some data centers altogether.

Congrats to Tom Kotarac on being selected as the Chair of @nitachicago.bsky.social! When I took office and wanted to learn more about public transit, I sat down with Tom, who is an expert on transit & clearly cares about the system. He'll be a great leader of this unified transit agency.

Great to see so many new restaurants opening across the Loop, including Mariela, Prasino, & Café Pisolino here in the 34th Ward. Every new business brings investment, jobs, & reasons for people to come downtown. Congrats to all of these entrepreneurs betting on Chicago!
Many Loop restaurants shut their doors during the pandemic. Now new ones are taking their place.
