24. A book that drew me in as it went on. At first I found it odd and it wasn't clear what the plot was but what it done well was capture the essence of a place and of people, and I feel like Steinbeck managed to make the characters feel real and that's what kept me interested

At times it brings on the misery a bit too much but the quality of writing it good enough to get it through, my main issue is that it's simply just too long. Overall I would say that it's flawed but still a well wrote critique on poverty and addiction

A great debut novel which was of particular interest to me as it's set in Wigton, near the Lake District but most definitely not an area most tourists are familiar with. The experimental style of writing was impressive and I enjoyed the use of local Cumbrian dialect

Donald is very good at capturing the story of Viz, the cultural impact of the comic, as well as his own personal story. He's very open about the highs and lows he had over the years

A nice read, Tassell has a very easy tone and conversational style of writing that lends itself well to the subject of non-league football, as does how he writes about it from a journalist point of view and meets so many of the people involved at various different clubs

I probably preferred the more autobiographical chapters over the ones focused entirely on stand up but it's all a good read and despite the huge amount of detail also very accessible
Watched every episode of Jam yesterday. As well as being one of the weirdest things I've ever seen the soundtrack to it is absolutely brilliant, probably the best use of music on any television show I've ever seen
