Watching my partners parents age has cemented something I started to realise when I worked with tech in schools. Replacing everything with apps, websites and tech was a really fucking stupid idea. It's so much harder for them to enjoy life now that everything's an app not a person.
No matter how many other languages I try and love, Go and Kotlin, for example, I always come back to JS/TS. I know it's not perfect, but I really do love building with it.

I would really love to stop paying for Grammarly. Spelling and grammar often jumble themselves in my head. Does anyone have some good recommendations on alternatives? I never need it on my phone. People I care enough about to text can suck it, lol. I only use it in browsers and apps when I write.

🧵(1/4) While frontend tooling and capabilities have exploded over the last decade, for some reason, in many places, the value placed on this skill has declined. AI seems to be making this worse in a way I was not prepared for:
Same in Software. People no longer care about quality. Bad UX choices, more expensive architecture, and overcomplicated systems are being pushed to production as quickly as possible. Don't even get me started on all the unthought-out ideas being pushed there, too.

I'm pretty sure if an artist had turned this in it would have been sent back with notes. And the fixes wouldn't take too long to make. But apparently no one gives a fuck any more?

One thing I find super strange is as industry most of us just seem to gloss over the fact we had to steal everyone’s work for these AI tools to exist. Regardless if these tools are useful we can’t just be ok with this right?

It is no longer sustainable to keep a website up now. Axel has done so much for the web and all of us. Buy one of his books if you can. We've learned so much from him.

@patak.cat hits the nail on the head here. More time, quality and care is honestly what most things need but are never given. AI really does seem to lay bare or exacerbate current issues.
patak@patak.cat · 3mo agoWe will see a huge wave of security vulnerability reports. But this influx shows we should have spent more time on security tooling and research in our projects, rather than treating it as a new paradigm that requires us to change the way we collaborate.

James@43081j.com · 3mo agowe launched a new @e18e.dev mini-site today! replacements.fyi acts as a super simple frontend to the module replacements data. we noticed the data wasn't very discoverable, so this is a focused tool for when you want to quicky look up if something has alternatives (esp. native ones!)
we're working on a new mini-site for making replacements (native and opinionated) more discoverable in @e18e.dev already finding this useful myself anytime i want to know "do i need this anymore?" 😀 there's been such good community collab going on to build this too. loving it! 💙
this morning there was chatter in the @e18e.dev discord about i18next having unused deps/bundles this evening there's a new release out! now it is zero-dependency, and ~330KB smaller 🎉
