The roof saga continues… seems the entire decking is falling apart, too. It probably hasn’t been changed since it was constructed in 1905 🫠

Our roof is getting redone today. I was sent this photo by our contractor. Apparently our roof had 4 layers of asphalt and tar on it. 2 layers over code 🙃 The motto for this building and its previous owners really was: "Eh, just slap another layer on it!"

People optimizing for CTR on facebook marketplace is CRAZY to me. Models or celebrities AI'd into an image with their item so you click through is absolutely wild.

I've fallen into the watch rabbit hole—which is something my wallet didn't need. It's been really nice to learn about analog tech and geek over artisans in the space. A welcome change from what feels like impending digital doom.

Was messing around with an idea for a slider shot and got this frame out of it. This part of the composition felt so evocative for some reason. Feels very Halt and Catch Fire.

Same for me. And debugging certain aspects of daily life where you know enough to smell bullshit but enough enough to think orthogonally about the situation.

i think for me the breaking point for taking llm coding seriously was not when it could work on features (whatever) but when it helped me debug issues i was really stuck on

Just had a memory pop in from the one time I tired IRC. I used ”ecosystem” to describe all the tooling/libs in JavaScript land then had people jump on me saying there is no such thing as an “ecosystem” in JavaScript. I vowed to never touch IRC again after that.

At what point does it become too many layers of abstraction? Three? Four? More? Seeing services that abstract away tools that abstract away platforms that abstract away infrastructure feels like too much.

A benefit to Agentic product dev I didn't expect: you need to be good at planning and communicating. With MCPs to pull context from Linear, etc. your projects/issues better be well written if you want to use them. Maybe people will put more thought into projects before committing to them 🥲

Changed to smart switches instead of bulbs at the new place and they’re using Z-wave instead of wifi. Sooo much more reliable and responsive. Splurging for a few Inovelli Red + Presence was worth it, too.

I think agents tend to mess up on simple tasks because they require complex solutions for simple requests. Asking an agent to pass optional args to a function within a file means it's writing & running a script to parse text. It takes 2x as long and is error prone vs me copy/pasting.
