This is my bike. I bought it for 300 quid in 2009. I reckon I've spent 500 quid since then on servicing and parts. I also reckon, conservatively, it's saved me £2-3000 pa in costs since I started riding to work every day in 2018. My bike has saved me ~£21,000. What's your car cost you?

Not really respecting a “shared space“ when you put up a sign telling children: “No Ball Games No Loud Noise No Wheeled Play” (what’s left for children’s play?)

My head feels like it's in a vice ahead of the storm. Years ago, the partner of a relative was heard pooh-poohing someone saying storm headaches aren't a thing Ever since the joke in our house is: I have a stormy head. No you dont, because X says they're made up.

Today's exercise has been putting this second shelf up (1950s bricks are no joke!), and now some physio exercises to try and put my back back together.

There's an "easy" solution to this (other than not banning them, obvs). The Queensway tunnel *will* support a permanent bike lane. I know, because it was suggested as part of the Covid EATF work we did. It was at least considered but I don't know exactly why it was ignored. Suspect air quality

I had a dream where I was being interviewed for a Chair. Then instead of the committee, Ben Affleck turned up and told me my movie pitch idea wasn't good, and had me workshop a tv show. Then the next day as I was prepared to do an hour record attempt they said i had to do, they made me chair.

Any ideas what I can do with 11 spiky polish cucumbers? ...actually on second thoughts I'll just check online for recipes.

We've entered the actually eating quite well phase of the summer.

For everyone pissing and whinging about whether the emergency message was appropriate or not, even a scant look at the news suggests there was a marked drop in the number of wildfires over the last fortnight...

Rounded out the holiday with a little present from me, to me.

We were in Conwy as the Tour of Britain went through. It would be churlish not to go and take a look.

FINALLY.

We've been staying in Llandudno the last few days. I like it here, but one thing that keeps sticking out to me given the older demographic here is how inaccessible it is. On the high street there's not many controlled crossing points, few refuges, and places impossible to cross in a wheelchair.

There have been a few things this summer that have finally made me reach the point of: No I can't just update my lecture slides for week X on topic Y. I need to pull them down and start again...

The "river" at Devil's Gorge looking very un-rivery. (A sign says it might be underground, but it was very much a river when we were last here in May...)

We tried a bellini, but with a nectarine...

I don't think there's one silver bullet for the high street, but even if there was I don't think it's pubs. Since we moved i don't think I've ever been in our 'local' - other than for an emergency loo with the child. They're important for communities, but I'm not concinved they're the lynchpin.
