Private actors are increasing their control over the essentials of life in energy, fuel, housing, food, healthcare & education. They drive inflation & drag down living standards. We need price controls & more public delivery to protect Australia from inflation & profiteering. My op-ed with SMH.

Crystal clear article on causes of inflation & alienation; neoliberal privatisation policies since 1980’s. Driven by short-term sugar hits for incumbent Govts since Keating, @ both state fed levels, dismal Treasury insistence, & of course RW press. “Only long-term solution is public provision”
Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.
The federal government can deliver power directly to Australian industry at almost half the price of private sector. Launching proposal for Sovereign Power with ETU at National Press Club. Build, owned & deliver cheap electricity with SP!
RBA inflation-targeting will fail to tackle warflation & make Australia's economic challenges worse. I joined ABC Nightlife to talk profits, inflation, fuel excise, widening asset class/worker divide & how gov't can change course in crisis.

The middle east conflict has thrown in a host of new cost of living spanners into the nations economic workings, that the Albanese government needs to address, not least of which is rising inflation.

Rate hikes are not the only option to curb inflation but a powerful orthodoxy wants you to believe it. War provides new opportunity for profiteering & consequence will be higher inflation. Gov't must attack inflation risk directly. >>> www.smh.com.au/business/the...
Increasing rates is such a blunt instrument. There are other, better ways to target inflation
If the RBA unleashes further painful interest rate rises, we risk severely hurting the economy and plunging into recession without reducing inflation at all.

New war inflation is hitting workers in high petrol prices. Next it'll be interest rate hikes & calls for gov't spending cuts. But oil prices won't stabilise coz workers hand $400/mth extra to banks in mortgage payments! This is supply-side inflation like COVID & 2022 surge after Russia-Ukraine.
Roll up! Excited to host Gary Stevenson in Melbourne on Feb 28! Hear from this refreshing, no-BS working-class voice from UK on how wealth inequality is killing the Fair Go & how we can get it back! @garyseconomics.bsky.social
What’s radical is that two average-earning people can’t afford to buy a house in any capital city in the country anymore! More coverage of my proposal to tax ultra-wealthy landowners to fund cheaper housing for homebuyers.
Radical plan to slash stamp duty - realestate.com.au
A radical left of centre proposal has been put forward in a bid to slash the onerous stamp duty burden on homebuyers.

Extreme land wealth is key driver of rising wealth inequality - a crisis undermining homeownership for workers & future generations. We need action. Great coverage today on our proposal to tax ultra-wealthy individuals with land fortunes +$20m to fund stamp duty cuts for homebuyers of new homes. 1/4
Interesting piece on RBA economists' 'dirty little secret' - they want more unemployment. Aus's ability to bring inflation down, avoid recession & retain high employment is good by internl standards. Workers paid in real wage losses & higher mortgage repayments. But at least they had jobs right? 1/7
The dirty little secret economists never want to mention
The theory goes that if you have just the right amount of workers on the unemployment scrap heap, you can keep inflation in check. The problem is that no-one knows exactly what the magic unemployment ...
