In the summer of 2016 I battled, I mean I hurt some people arguing that there had to be a limit on bad faith within the Church. I lost–family said "Geoff's gone round the bend", friends said "let it go" The conservative Church is not a bastion of morality, it is the moralizer of a double standards

The culture wars. Whiteness losing segregation was a worse setback than losing the Civil War because 'separate but equal' was it's compromise with liberal democracy. From then on, it was open season and the church infiltrated government.

I wish he had specified what he means by “wedge-issue attacks.” I’m also not sure what it means to say that Dems have been “vulnerable” to these things for 60 years. Presumably, he is suggesting that backlash politics has, on balance, harmed the Democrats.

I absolutely love how he exposes evangelical values. "Are you going to leave me now?" And they give him another mulligan. Why is it so hard for them to distance themselves from Trump; because Christ is dead, he's not relevant to their day to day life; otoh, Trump is meeting their deepest need.
Hope and Optimism are the best cures for an over wretched Capitalism; OR you choose wretched Capitalism and lose your healthcare, send your kids to subpar schools, get used to high levels of abortion and gun violence and lose workers rights. Your choice, no one is compelled.

This is disturbing, I thought ya'll knew Trump wrote hyperbole helps; will say anything to close a deal. That he wasn't bound by truth or fiction; only his intimate relationship with his gut instincts tells him what is truth when he opens his mouth; an hour later it could and has been something else

The degree in which your christian faith is bad faith is directly proportional to the degree in which your christian faith doctrinalizes that God isn't fair – that God hasn't mandated special concern for those who can't for protect themselves. And honestly, it's bad faith to say it's still good.
