San Antonio’s Archbishop Gustavo releases Pastoral Letter on Migration: “Families we know by name are now afraid to come to the sacraments. Like the Good Samaritan who drew near to the wounded, we cannot walk past them.” archsa.org/we-will-come...

Post mostly about the ways evangelicals appropriate God to justify Tradition and political activism. "It is astonishing the lengths to which a person, or a people, will go in order to avoid a truthful mirror.” ― James Baldwin
This is how whiteness works; it's one massive chimera with all its parts giving the others the benefit of the doubt to the point that their understanding looks like a giant quid pro quo. After 8 years of him, he won the popular vote in 2024. Will you vote this time? hmm
When you're denying women's rights and curtailing brown people's rights and you say communists and Islam are your sworn enemy... Guess who you've just publicly declared is GOOD; or at least nonthreatening. Who do you think you are to go on bullying people?
In the summer of 2016 I battled, I mean I hurt some people arguing that there had to be a limit on bad faith within the Church. I lost–family said "Geoff's gone round the bend", friends said "let it go" The conservative Church is not a bastion of morality, it is the moralizer of a double standards
Mike Johnson tells Politico that he's standing behind Republican Max Miller — despite the "serious" domestic abuse allegations against him.
The only value he added to the party was to convince the racists that shamelessness was possible. And the others tolerated it.
This is what a decade of Trumpism has encouraged -- a GOP gubernatorial candidate in Colorado who's unsure of how many people he's killed but positive that his Jewish opponent is a tool of Satan. These people were in the tent before, but the rest of the party seemed embarrassed about them. No more!
The culture wars. Whiteness losing segregation was a worse setback than losing the Civil War because 'separate but equal' was it's compromise with liberal democracy. From then on, it was open season and the church infiltrated government.
From Tom Edsall’s column. I wish he had specified what he means by “wedge-issue attacks.” I’m also not sure what it means to say that Dems have been “vulnerable” to these things for 60 years. Presumably, he is suggesting that backlash politics has, on balance, harmed the Democrats.
Woke up this morning thinking about the saddest song I know. It's about a man who loved, he built a kitchen table, shaped its legs, joined the top, carved "for my children" into it; and his "children touched it with their laughter, and it was good"; the old man dies, and no one wants the table. +
"Stripped of verbiage and subterfuge and in its naked nastiness, the new American creed says: fear to let black men even try to rise lest they become the equals of the white. And this is the land that professes to follow Jesus Christ. The blasphemy of such a course is only matched by its cowardice"
I absolutely love how he exposes evangelical values. "Are you going to leave me now?" And they give him another mulligan. Why is it so hard for them to distance themselves from Trump; because Christ is dead, he's not relevant to their day to day life; otoh, Trump is meeting their deepest need.
Hope and Optimism are the best cures for an over wretched Capitalism; OR you choose wretched Capitalism and lose your healthcare, send your kids to subpar schools, get used to high levels of abortion and gun violence and lose workers rights. Your choice, no one is compelled.
Are people still that naive to think he has a normal functioning conscience? Talk about denial.
This is disturbing, I thought ya'll knew Trump wrote hyperbole helps; will say anything to close a deal. That he wasn't bound by truth or fiction; only his intimate relationship with his gut instincts tells him what is truth when he opens his mouth; an hour later it could and has been something else

“A tech that copies itself and even drops food for free.” Richard Power as quoted by John Ehrenreich 📖 Native Trees of Connecticut (Globe Pequot 2022). #SundaySentence
The degree in which your christian faith is bad faith is directly proportional to the degree in which your christian faith doctrinalizes that God isn't fair – that God hasn't mandated special concern for those who can't for protect themselves. And honestly, it's bad faith to say it's still good.
This was the meditation (by Jonathan Edwards) before communion this morning in church, What does this even mean? {ether, make of the 'doctrine of the gospel' whatever you like, I mean the guy kept slaves}
On this Sunday, here's a question for Christians: What is the chief aim, purpose, goal, mission of God?
"Although Judaism wants its followers to meditate and reflect on the Being of God, it also impressed upon them that God is unknowable and cannot be defined or grasped with the limited intellect of Man" ~ Weiss-Rosmarin imo, there is one thing he has made known, he hates double standards. +
lol, he's done irreparable damage to the country's power. We are the the only country in the world with more than three operational aircraft carriers (we have 13) and he only knows hard power "get it done...we're locked and loaded..." #Please he wouldn't be making America tacky but for the base.

Mark Noll, in his classic book The Scandal of the Evangelical mind, 'post Civil War, evangelicals deployed three tools to maintain relevance in a maelstrom of change: Common Sense(Natural law), Tradition, Political Activism. Within a generation, there would be no minister at the head of a major uni'
Professor here let’s connect the dots here people. The State Department’s hilarious map of African countries with coastal and landlocked countries flipped: “An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.”
Three years ago, our reporter received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of thousands of files: years of secretly recorded conversations, private militia chat logs and videos sent by a man named John Williams. (Published Jan. 2025)
A Mole Infiltrated the Highest Ranks of American Militias. This Is What He Found.
Outraged by the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, a wilderness survival trainer spent years undercover climbing the ranks of right-wing militias. He didn’t tell police or the FBI. He didn’t tell family or friends....
