Once critical voices start to self-censor because they fear repercussions, press freedom is in grave peril - be it a movie or music album review in a local newspaper, or Jimmy Kimmel. Freedom of expression must be preserved, on every level.
In an unprecedented global action, almost 200 media outlets from 50 countries are simultaneously disrupting their front pages, homepages, and broadcasts to demand an end to the killing of journalists in Gaza and to call for international press access to the enclave.
We firmly denounce the killing of journalists in Gaza. Protecting those who inform is protecting the public’s right to truth, especially during conflicts. Journalism must never be a death sentence.
