Just got a new laptop. I've spent the past 6 years using Raycast with spotlight (the search box on โŒ˜+space) disabled. Before disabling spotlight, I was shocked to discover... It's good now?! All the stuff I use raycast for: - toggle dark mode - unit conversions - calculations built in and fast?!

Tonight is meetup night! Join us for food & drinks at Just The Tap to chat about the latest happenings on the web with like-minded devs. Then grab a seat and hear from @caidan.dev about the latest in doing web dev with agents! Details and RSVP on Luma ๐Ÿ‘‡

Lots of places have an affinity for some activity. Itโ€™s weird to live there and never do it: - PNW has hiking - Southern California has beaches and surfing - Basque has pintxos bar hopping - Netherlands has casual biking - Cozumel has SCUBA diving Where do you live and whatโ€™s the thing there?

It's come to my attention that some people have been leveraging AI to degrade your mental health. You're doing it wrong! Find ways that AI can help you do more of what you love with the people you love. Now I get push notifications when lake union has ideal paddleboarding conditions.

A push notification is shown with the title "LAKE MODE: ACTIVATED ๐ŸŒŠ from allanOS"

The notification text says: "Friday, Aug 7 4pm-5pm. 89.8ยบF, full sun, glassy 2mph wind. Rally the crew. We ride. ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธโ˜€๏ธ"

We recently got buttons for the cats so they can โ€œspeakโ€ to us. So far they have play, pets, food, and brush buttons. Kaiba isnโ€™t interested, but Momo uses them 100x per day! After telling her โ€œno playโ€ 20 times in a row, we compromised. She snuggles my arm, I installed hex.kitlangton.com to type

Momo, a fluffy white ragdoll cat with light gray face fur and ears is lying on her left side on a white chair. Her legs are wrapped around my arm and my left hand, held hostage, is resting on her front left leg.

Now that writing more code (of more questionable quality) is fast & cheap, what code becomes worth writing? I think client-only tools and demos are a great use case. Most tech docs today are just markdown, but with LLMs do richer, interactive docs start to make sense?

How in the world did we end up with YAML for CI pipelines (GH Actions), multi-container management (docker compose), AND container orchestration (k8s)? All the devops folks I know are competent engineers, why are they stuck with such wimpy syntax for managing this stuff?!

I've been trying to figure out a bug in a playwright browser test today. Turns out: - `browser.newPage()` is at `about:blank` (this makes sense) - mount things with `page.setContent(...)` etc., URL stays at `about:blank` (makes sense, didn't nav) `window.location.origin` is the _string_ `"null"`...

Something lost in agentic coding is being able to _feel_ if an API is good. APIs are like other machines interfaces: how they respond to being used is tangible. Itโ€™s something lost when only observing someone else operate the machine. I still donโ€™t know if that will matter in 5 years, though.

Itโ€™s not the typing func doThing(blah blah) that does it for me, its the knowing that the interlocking components work in just the right way to make everything else hum along nicely. In other words, I do understand the magic of the machine. No coding required anymore.

Seattle has this problem where a bunch of restaurants will have some mandatory service charge, โ€œliving wage surchargeโ€ or โ€œregulatory response feeโ€ or whatever other bullshit, instead of being normal businesses that charge for their goods/services and pay employees fairly. Not WINDY CITY PIE!

THANKS FOR VISITING WINDY CITY PIE! WE ARE NOW TIP-FREE AND SERVICE CHARGE-FREE. IN ORDER TO ENSURE OUR STAFF CONTINUES TO THRIVE UNDER THIS CHANGE, WE HAVE UPDATED OUR MENU PRICES AND STAFF COMPENSATION POLICY SO THAT THE FULL COST OF YOUR ORDER IS REFLECTED IN OUR PRICES WITHOUT ADDITIONAL CHARGES.

Get a ~$20 subscription to your service of choice (OpenAI, Anthropic, umans.ai, opencode.ai, etc.) and start by asking it to help with low stakes tasks that are easy for you to verify. Then try progressively more involved tasks until you find the limits of what you're happy to have the LLM do.

what would you say to someone who wants to get into agentic coding but have no idea where to start or how to extend capabilities past prompting?

Woohoo! Finally managed to get a successful sign in using SAML SSO on Doc Duck! It was only my own account, in my own org, but now I've finally got a clear path towards a working SSO implementation ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
