@alnaperera.bsky.social

Writer (primarily fantasy), PhD student. Talks about publishing but never does. Too much worldbuilding.

#MythAugust 5 This is not straightforward, and also, it's not something that a lot of people are worried about. For example the elementals would be considered equal in power, but again that's because every type of magic is equal in power, which is, well, [citation needed]. 1/2

🫜Prof Emily🫜@professoremily.bsky.social · 17h ago

#MythAugust 5 Today is about hierarchy! Who ranks highest or lowest among your gods/spirits/whatever? Is there a consensus about this ranking? As usual, interpret the question as loosely as you need to to fit your specific worldbuilding, and feel free to skip if it's not relevant to you! 😊❤️

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 5:
Let's talk hierarchy! Which of your deities are more powerful/respected? Are there minor deities who serve the big ones?

#AwesomeCharacters Afu-ri, explisives experiments. Or them and Fen working on something together which is not good for anyone's health. Then I suspect a few others will get involved trying to set the situation right and making it worse. I wouldn't be mad, just disappointed.

#CartAugust 4 There are a few of these. There's the humongous mountain range to the east of the city which is great for tourism and agriculture, but the south side is basically uninhabited because it's so hard to get to it. Much further east and north, there's an even bigger mountain range 1/2

You shall not pass! Hey #CartAugust crew, time to dive in and really start looking at your maps. Today, we're talking elevation: highs, lows, and if you have neither, barriers to movement. Tell me about the geology, the history, famous explorers who lost their lives there... What do I need to know?

#CartAugust: a prompt game for map nerds by @mcburnellauthor.bsky.com
Natural features: Day 4, Barriers.
Talk to me about elevation changes in your world. Mountains, canyons, caves. Which is most interesting and why?

#AnthropologyAugust 4 On average, the non-spoilery answer would be a group of forest people. They're generally small (Lastak would be the height of a tall man among them and she's short by human standards). Though I suppose there is bound to be a smaller spirit somewhere.

MYSTIC@mystic888wizard.bsky.social · 2d ago

#AnthropologyAugust Once again doing the opposite, we just talked about the largest intelligent species, now what is the smallest? Does your setting have goblins or gnomes? Or does it have even smaller creatures like bugs or fairies? Does their size affect their interactions with other species?

#MythAugust 4 There's less factions and more tiers or other groupings. There's the primordials, the elementals, the celestials, etc. They're all different beings that exist and the drama isn't strictly inter-group. Though I guess there's a difference between spirits and gods, though that 1/2

🫜Prof Emily🫜@professoremily.bsky.social · 2d ago

#MythAugust 4 Today, tell me about the different factions among your gods/spirits. Think like the Æsir & Vanir in Norse mythology, or angels & demons in Christianity. What's their relationship? Are they sworn enemies? Sometimes allies? Interpret the question however makes sense for your story!

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 4:
Are there different factions among your deities? If so, what is their relationship to each other?

#AugustWorldbuilders 4 It varies a lot from school to school, level of education, location (rural or urban), and the subject being studied. For example, a chemistry class for mages is likely to be full of eccentric, highly curious mad scientist types and if they're quiet you should probably 1/2

#AnthropologyAugust 3 Dragons on average, but the largest individual is probably a spirit who is an entire mountain or something. Or the giant river that flows through this big city that is also extremely long (don't tell him I said that). Though I suppose 'species' is a stretch for spirits.

MYSTIC@mystic888wizard.bsky.social · 2d ago

#AnthropologyAugust We have talked about the rarest, and the most plentiful but now let’s talk about the biggest. Do you have any intelligent species that could be considered megafauna? Or even larger that might be kaiju sized? #promptgame #prompt #writesky #writingcomunity

What is the largest intelligent species in your setting?

#AnthropologyAugust 2 Dragons may be close, but they're spread out, so I'd say the bird people of the southern Islands. There's only a few hundred of them on one (grologically active) island. They may be close to extinction but no one knows because they're so insular.

MYSTIC@mystic888wizard.bsky.social · 3d ago

#AnthropologyAugust Yesterday we talked about the most common intelligent species, whether that be the most well spread or the highest population. Today let’s talk about the opposite What is the rarest intelligent species? How did they become so few? Are any near extinction? #promtgame #writesky

Day 2 : What is the least common or rarest intelligent species in your world? Was this always the case?

#AnthropologyAugust 1 Probably humans. They have a relatively short lifespan and adapt to pretty much everything. Though of course one is faced with the question of how to define a human because a good number of the other humanoids may be human as well, who just adapted a bit more than others...

MYSTIC@mystic888wizard.bsky.social · 4d ago

#AnthropologyAugust Ok let’s get this going with day 1! What is the most common intelligent sapient species in your fantasy world? That can either be the one with the highest population, or just the one that is spread around the most. What makes them so common? #writesky #promptgame #prompt

#AwesomeCharacters Lastak may consider adding you to her hit list for asking that. She will insist it's uninteresting and wriggle her way out of it, and she'll investigate the person asking if she's pestered enough. After the story is finished, maybe she'll approve a toned down factual account.

#G'day #CartAugust crew! Today, we're living dangerously, brushing up close against the demon Spoilers. The question: if you made two maps, a prologue and an epilogue, would they be the same? And if not, how have the events of the story changed this world?

#MythAugust 3 Good question 😂 In many interpretations, they're individuals with their own personalities. Of course these personalities vary too depending on who you ask. Some are strongly in the blue and orange morality camp, others align with people, and some are completely amoral.

🫜Prof Emily🫜@professoremily.bsky.social · 3d ago

#AugustWorldbuilders 3 Most trades are taught through guilds. Universities exist and a university education is needed for specialized jobs. It's also possible to go to university to study magic (some types of magic require a large knowledge base to use effectively). Military schools also exist.

#MythAugust 2 It's a matter of sect, etc, but the two primal gods, the 16 (or 17 or 18) elementals, or a another combination of more widely worshipped gods may be considered the major gods. Sometimes it's all of them. (Yes, it's a lot of gods and we're not even getting into minor gods or spirits)

#MythAugust 1 yay! It's polytheistic and I would describe it as an umbrella religion of sorts—everyone more or less follow the same central gods but there are many interpretations of them, and it varies regionally and by sect. The ultimate goals and how to reach them also vary just as much.
