In a working paper with @alonsoroman.bsky.social and @lucabellodi.bsky.social, we show that older political leaders are associated with less satisfaction with democracy. People care about the representative implications of ageing leadership.

Only ~25% of leaders around the world used to be over 60. Today it is more than half of them.

All is relative. After one extra month, and all the horrible/distressing things he has done lately, the 25% tariff increase imposed today to Mexico and Canada (his allies) doesn’t seem as worrying as it did a month ago. Please, let us not get used to this incremental global order backsliding.
