Doing Platform Engineering in Berlin Now: gym, studying Japanese, Critical Role, Cuppin.gs, Rust

Shocked at how bad the signage is every time I come back to Berlin no matter the entry point. I shouldn’t be this confused returning to the city I’ve lived in for more than a decade. But alas Germans can’t make proper wayfinding.

Greetings after a mad dash to section G of platform 22 on Munich HBF in 33C full sun. What a botched redevelopment of a train station this is. In the Netherlands I imagine temporary station squares and pedestrian bridges would be erected to prevent this misery.

Love to see a dog owner being kicked out of a resort because they think that “dog friendly” means their dog can be off leash in the common garden permanently. Not all dog owners but pretty much most of them.

One of the funnier discoveries of this summer is how much better American sports commentary is for both the World Cup and for Le Tour. A guy called the bug has a better football podcast (The Beautiful Pod) than anything I’ve ever heard in Europe.

Building on Tempelhof should be traded against structural pro-construction measures that will generate hundreds of thousands of units. It shouldn't be wasted on a one-off real-estate sweetheart project that lets party insiders make bank.

So it’s standard now for people in Berlin to travel to Copenhagen to get married and nobody in the administration here considered that may be something that they need to fix? Is there even anybody at the wheel here?

Yesterday I had to listen to somebody claim that the vastly underperforming Italian education system is better than what we have here in Berlin because “everybody gets a chance.” People are just so stupid.

However much they say that Berlin has great public transportation, my kids would prefer to never take it. I understand because it’s a total shitshow and it’s one of many areas where the city is failing its weakest (in favour of the junkies who have taken over the network).

This morning I cycled past some people of the SPD who were building up an election stand and shouted abuse at them. I encourage everybody else to do the same. They’re pieces of shit and this entire campaign should be miserable for them.

In between offices, I got a (reimbursed) plan for some premium coworking in Berlin which I thought would cover the gap. Now I understand why people are preferring to work and take calls in coffee shops. Coworking is awful and I couldn't be productive there at all.

Most likely this will be Berlin's next mayor in the eternal back-and-forth between CDU and SPD just because the Greens refuse to run a serious candidate. With that, any hope of the city government improving something in Berlin vanishes. spd.berlin/steffen-krach/

Disregarding the bicycle street is the norm until some bros here seem to have caused a minor accident on Mariannenplatz. The entire street had congregated to make sure they don’t flee and face some justice. In the Berlin of today, there are no traffic rules to speak of.
