This is an old article but highlights some of the impacts to science as a result of downsizing the Office of Research and Development - to note, it is estimated that of the jobs lost, an estimated 25-30% were science related jobs federalnewsnetwork.com/management/2...

The EPA has also implemented an “advance notice” policy for most of its public-facing research.

Been taking some time off to reset and focus on family. This weekend I am completely disconnecting to celebrate and surround myself with loved ones. I hope you have the opportunity to do the same. Hopefully next week I will feel up to resuming the regularly scheduled programming.

The IRS lost so many people. We are literally struggling to maintain the mission. We were always understaffed and underfunded since Reagan. But hey we can put your financial information in ChatGPT. Fuck your privacy. I need a drink. www.tigta.gov/sites/defaul...
Hey all been super busy because life happens and ALTS are human. May I invite you to watch “The Devil We Know” for a quick what is PFAS and why does it matter rundown? It’s a simplification yes, but is great for starting convos on PFAS. And let me know your thoughts
Following the post on the heist documentary, related to EPA specifically: the loss of ORD which came up in the latest budget hearing, which I didn’t take full notes on. Roughly 1600 employees were in ORD. That’s down to less than 1000. Out of that number no definitive answers were
I watched this. It’s a short rundown of the (known) damage that has been done. I don’t think the full impact has been fully realized yet, but overall this was a really well done documentary. My heart is breaking for all those we lost and the resulting harm to us all
If you’ve ever worked inside a federal agency, or know someone who has, you already know this kind of purging weakens our country. HEIST documents how institutions are dismantled from the inside out. Watch the full documentary on YouTube. And visit the website at www.heistthedocumentary.film
I dont know, I would attend a vigil for an epa employee. Nice to know I’ll be investigated if I attend.

Please take the chance to learn more about FEMA!
We‘re really happy to see this series out in the world, finally. FEMA is misunderstood & this does a good job of covering its history & where we are now. Please consider listening to the entire series as it releases! Happy to answer any questions. #FEMA www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm...
Positive weekend assignment to break up the blah. Post your favorite songs from the 60s. I have a million and a half things to do this weekend so won’t be super active but will do my best to keep up. I’ll start with youtu.be/nrIPxlFzDi0?...

Today was the Senate Environment and Public Works hearing on the budget. Much better today. General feel is they know the proposed budget is unrealistic and moved on and they prob have an idea of what they will budget. Also - seemed more coordinated, less repetitive comments. Some thoughts:

The house just cannot seem to do its job. You know what else is included in that bill to fund #FEMA, TSA, and Coast Guard? A $26 billion replenishment of the disaster relief fund. What exactly is the disaster relief fund? I’m glad you asked. 🧵🧵🧵 www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
Watched both budget hearings yesterday and today and as promised adding some notes. This one will be a little more disjointed. First is my pet peeve - you could tell who was on what side. Protecting human health and the environment should be bipartisan and the EPA should rely on science and law
This highlights exactly what the EPA has lost. Instead of the political theater today maybe there could have been more transparency to the public on the impacts of the reorganization and subsequent devastation of ORD and research

USDA is actively soliciting farmer input for a fertilizer price collusion investigation. The input pricing squeeze has been a known prob for decades. Interesting timing for an antitrust probe, but if you’re a farmer, this is the survey to fill out…. farmpolicynews.illinois.edu/2026/04/usda...
“Reassigns researchers” is plan at Forest Service too. Does leadership think District staff doesn’t also work at desks? District staff do not roam the woods all day. But to spend more time in the field, they do lean on R&D and Regional Offices for science & policy direction. Reorg upends that.
This is a perfect summary of everything happening with the destruction of ORD and the reorg related to my earlier post - “No one knows what they’re supposed to be doing, all of management is so scared of making a mistake they won’t commit themselves to any decisions” www.eenews.net/articles/epa...

In doing the earth day events by state it’s amazing to see how great programs were in 2024. It’s actually hard to find current cleanup programs now
