Not that you have to follow this, you can do the routes in Kanon in any order you want as long as Ayu's is last, but the order I'd personally recommend is this: Shiori-->Mai-->Makoto-->Nayuki-->Ayu
Stylistically this show did everything right. Such a vibe, one which I felt genuinely gave me more appreciation for the story than I had only reading the VN. I wish they still made anime that feel like this
