Finished Radiant Zenith 💙 This one bounced around my head for almost two years before I got it done. A crow and her rook looking up at the stars together, with the real objects that were in the sky one particular night. A very special painting to me. #oilpainting #corvids #astronomy #rook #crow
The final passes on the rook and crow brought some navy glazes back into the feathers, softened the rook's eyelids, and worked metal leaf into the piece with a little Viridian and Vine Black scumbled over the gilding to tie it in. #oilpainting #corvids #crow #rook #birdart

It's been pretty busy around here with trips and things (and I also got readdicted to Dead By Daylight lol) but I'm slowly making some progress on Radiant Zenith. Put in the foundation layer of the moon!
Started my favorite part on Radiant Zenith, the glazing phase. Used a blue-black glaze to unify the rook and crow and worked some lighter details back in. I think they read much more like a couple now. I love these two so much 😭 (sorry about the weird photo, I was trying out my digital camera)
There she is, sweet baby. Somehow I was dragging on her wing feathers but getting up to her neck and face went super fast!

Started on the rook in Radiant Zenith this weekend. Trying out some new-to-me paints on this one, including a vine black that's been really lovely to work with; it somehow has more personality and is more transparent than the blacks I reached for in the past. Yes, I'll be glazing his eye eventually.
