Nothing will change my mind on how great it is to take the bus (and all public transit, really)… but this bus driver is quite aggressive with their stops and my dress is very slippery against this seat so I’m spending this whole ride trying not to slip right onto the floor.

Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

I grew up in Jackson Heights in Queens and we still had a car, and our lives got measurably better when we did.

Every time I ferry/walk to work, I’m reminded that Miramichi built this entire stretch of street with a dropped curb and that has, of course, resulted in vehicles parking in the sidewalk. This was preventable.

Yesterday I cleared space on my 14yo’s iPhone by doing the 1year forward date trick. I followed the detailed instructions I found meticulously. Today my husband decided to do the same on his phone, so he set his phone’s date to June 22, 2064. Anyway, now instead of a phone, he has a brick. 🫠

My kids are born 3 years in a row. My oldest is finishing her time at their combined elementary/middle school and moving to high school in the fall. Today was her last middle school awards banquet. We got an email inviting us to attend because “our child had been selected to receive an award”.

My local public-serving Service Canada building (built in the 2010s), has no sidewalk leading into, has no bike rack or other secure bike parking, but *does* have parking on all four sides!

The US is now spending more on data center construction than on public transportation infrastructure

I’ve shed a few pounds since the fall and my biggest issue with it is that my body doesn’t temperature regulate as well as it used to and I feel cold a lot. This has been a mental barrier to getting on my bike, because I feel immediately freezing in the cold wind. Really need temps to warm up soon!

A short 🧵 about why bikes are best even in car-loving cities: Yesterday, a few of my team members & I were able to work from an office in our neighborhood, saving us 20km in commutes. But Miramichi had a traffic meltdown yesterday. Motorists were reporting 45min-1 hour waits to travel 1.5km.

Park sounds tonight included dozens of kids laughing and playing: running around, basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, scooters, bikes, slides, swings, and more. Park sights? Those same kids but also constant flurries of tree seeds landing all around.

Results aren’t final yet but I just texted my early congratulations to the next Mayor of Miramichi. Nobody told me how cool it would be to have your friend become mayor so you can say things like: “oh yea, I just texted the mayor”.

With the closure of the centennial bridge, my daily commute has changed from 15 minutes a day to 1.5 hours a day in heavy traffic. It has been *exceedingly bad* for my mental health. I don’t know how I’ll handle this for the next 3 years.

Something that speaks to a sudden decline in our society is the amount of people I’ve seen lately approaching stop signs and then going right through them like “nope, don’t believe in this anymore!”

This is the closest I can get to Montréal at this moment, and frankly… I’ll take it.
