Do you ever go to a job interview knowing that you will fail? Do you ever negotiate knowing it will not work? Do you take the opportunity to assess failure scenarios? How people on the other side behaves is a great learning. Our emphasis on success limits our ability to explore.

The most frequent career advice consists in teaching people how to succeed at something. Rarely people are taught how to deal with truly difficult situations you can't just fix or run from. Hence most career advice is useless. The best strategy is inward facing, how to be calm when others can't.

It's interesting to see first hand that in post-AI software development, problems are the same as pre-AI. Domain complexity, context switches, quality and engineering practices, etc. AI only magnifies what was already there. Chaos is amplified.

Being a tech lead requires you being able to say NO to a lot of things, pushing back when is unpopular, and break bad news as often as necessary. I'd go as far as surviving in the tech industry today requires this. Learn to say NO.

You can ship as fast as you like with AI, if the architecture is brittle and domain is not well defined, any productivity gains will be offset by incidents, bugs and bottlenecks between teams. AI cannot save you from poor engineering practices.

Is beyond surprising how many disciplines will collapse in the same topics if you go deep enough. Here I am, learning about music harmony, state machines, Markov chains and LLMs, having studied these topics separately, some of them for years.

How come we have so much knowledge about UX and design, so many experts... yet I still need to select a category of emojis to search for a specific emoji, and I can't find it if is not the right category. We are not indexing the Internet, is just a bunch of emojis, why can't we have global search?

I asked @claudecode.bsky.social to write some music in MusicXML format using some existing examples, and I must say I'm honestly surpirsed. The outcome is not very creative, but is harmonically accurate and free of any errors!

I have zero connection to animation other than having watched it, but this article about technical lighting effects in cel animation and how these analog processes created effects almost impossible to replicate digitally is INCREDIBLY interesting!
