Getting started! Saw a recent movie adaption a few years ago. Enjoyed it. Looking forward to read the OG thing #balzactogether

Knew the last lines of the book already but didn't know the context. Adds a layer to the whole thing. Very very beautiful (and sad). I'll definitely read this book again #balzactogether
"Deux mots, deux murmures accentués par l'âme qui s'envola sur cette parole" Beautiful #balzactogether
"Nasie" : a nickname that could have aged better. Not a fan of the very long scene with the sisters. However, Balzac knows a thing or two about money #balzactogether
Delphine cooking a smaller version of her room for Rastignac.. #balzactogether
Very very good part 1. Hard to resist reading the whole book #balzactogether
Last pages really showcase one of Balzac's biggest stylistical leitmotivs :"un de ces" ("one of these"). "un de ces regards froidement interrogatifs" / "un de ces hommes capables de ruiner des orphelins.." Many such cases! #balzactogether
The whole adding - rama at the end of words bit is very funny (don't know how it translates into english). Interesting to see how Vautrin effortlessly moves from one group to another. #balzactogether
Didn't expect Balzac's characters to be this good. Especially the way Mrs Vauquer is described : through the house, through her interactions with the other characters (especially her plot to seduce M. Goriot) and through the narrator's "punchlines". #balzactogether
