In this open access article, @yulengzeng.bsky.social (University of Groningen) and @andduer.bsky.social (@unisalzburg.bsky.social) examine how economic sanctions affect the relative military spending of targeted states, drawing on data from 166 countries between 1962 and 2015.

Happy to announce a new publication with @yulengzeng.bsky.social in the Journal of Peace Research. We show that sanction shocks lead to a short-term increase in *relative* military spending in the target states. The paper is available open access at: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....
